Is anybody feeding the sad looking horse in Sykes Lane (in one of the fields running up towards the canal)? There doesn't seem to be any hay or feed left there, and the horse has no access to grass in this snow-covered field? |

If you are concerned and if this situation is ongoing contact the RSPCA and they will send out an Inspector. |

The owner of the horse calls every day to check, feed and make sure it has water. I don't know what his name is, but if he can't get there one of his friends check on it. I have spoke to him on occasions and I do see him go down. Alan it might have helped if you had explained to Greengrass, that while a horse likes to graze. It needs a bit more than just grass to live on. |

He quite clearly said no hay or feed had been left there, NOT just mentioned the grass, and it ain't up to me to educate people on here on what horses eat!
Personally as I've not seen the horse I wouldn't even comment! BUT if I thought an animal was being mistreated, in my opinion, I would phone the RSPCA not complain on here, have a nice day! |

If Herself is right, then that is good news (for the horse!) and just the sort of information I hoped would come forward. No accusations were being made, without the facts. Surely it would be unfair to call in the RSPCA without knowing whether or not this was a genuine case of need/neglect. The RSPCA are 'snowed under' with cruelty cases and it would be irresponsible to waste their time. But, if we're a real community in Silsden, its not a bad idea to share our concerns about both human and animal welfare, and get things done when its necessary. |

here here greenlanes.
although one does have to question the reliability of 'herself's' statement. she seems perfectly aware of the actions of the owner and has spoke to him on numerous occasions and yet doesnt even know his name. seems odd. hope she isnt telling pies. |

Let's hope so ted
She knows the owner but expects me to explain horse care on here, why hasn't she asked the owner to do that? |

As a horse owner myself, I can let you all know that whilst my horse may be outside all day, he comes in at night to his feed of sugar beet and carrots (and plenty of!!!) So I do suggest that however helpful some of you feel you are being on here, raising your concerns, in future stop to find out the facts around a situation before suggesting a horse is a 'hungry' horse. In this thread you have all pretty much said you dont know the in's and out's of what a horse eats, so may i ask why you feel knowledgable enough to distincuish this particular horse as being hungry ??!! If you are concerned about something why dont you confront the situation face to face instead of gossiping and making suggestions on here? ! My feeling is you prefer not to? |

'sazzles' it would appear nobody has actually suggested the horse is hungry, merely questioned it.
as a horse owner, one would expect you to be more appreciative of others concerened about the welfare of such mammals, however you appear to be shotting them down. one sincerely hopes you dont have a guilty conscience either..... |

The horse in question isnt mine. Mine has been in the stable since the snow came and wont be coming out untill its gone. The horse greenlanes is refering to (i think) must be big jons, he has a shire horse a bit further down from me and i can assure everyone the horse is very well looked after, not hungry and not miserable. Now i agree with sazzles, this isnt the place to put up a thread about a horse you are concerned with because its just gossiping. If you are concerned why not make it your buisness to find out who the owner is and quietly have a word with him or her. |
