Topic : Petrol Station |
|
| MATTSKI |
Drove past the petrol station this morning and noticed it had cones across with shutters down on the windows, and a small notice attached to the cones but couldn't stop to read it. Anyone know why it's closed? |
|
| pumbajunior |
probably because its gone down to 89.9p per litre |
|
| alan |
He'll be in shock having to keep putting the price down ![]() Still dearer than Keighley though!!! |
|

Stop moaning. At least we have got a convenient petrol station. Somewhere to get petrol when the lawn needs cutting and BBQ charcoal and place to get those little things we run out of when everything else is closed. |
|
| alan |
But pleasant service would be nice as well, that seems not to be available!!!!!! |
|
| pumbajunior |
no fred there not open 24hr plus (and ive heard the argument on here before that why go to keighley at 2p per litre cheaper use more than you save) but surely there isnt anyone on here who just drives round the village and no were else so it is possible for all of us to drive past a cheaper garage cheaper than 89.9p in keighley were? |

quoteBut pleasant service would be nice as well, that seems not to be available!!!!!! ![]() agreed alan i was told earlier this year after putting £5 in a loan car from citroen (with one of these fancy so many miles till your empty read outs) when i went back to query that this hadnt changed and had actually gone down the girl said well you only put £5 in i thought no s**t sherlock holmes i can read the dials on the pump but i said my gauge hasnt gone up any wasnt expecting it to go up to a full tank on a fiver |

My wife takes the 'Miles to Go' display on her Mondeo as gospel too. It comes on at 50 miles and is reasonable at first, but the last 15 is a curious mixture of hilarity and terror (if you don't have a can in the boot with some spare Diesel). It literally decrements about 100 driven yds = -1 displayed mile. |

in the end it just seems that the citroen C2 has a crap system but the response i got wasnt very good and was kindy smarmy n smug |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) There is VAT on petrol and from Monday it will be 15% for 13 months. However fuel duty will rise at the same time so the price will stay the same for the general public.VAT registered companies like my own will be claiming 15%(2.5% less than this week) but paying the same price as this week.So in effect its a stealth tax, as usual from Labour. And guess what. When VAT goes back to 17.5% the fuel duty stays the same!!!!!. |

In real terms - ie allowing for inflation - petrol is cheaper than it was in the 1960s. Bet you will not read that in the Mail for Morons or the Express for Eediots. |

Do you read the Guardian for gimboids wahiba or the times for Tos.... no we wont go there |

quote Eh? There's VAT on petrol! Let's just see how fast it goes down. A permanent 2p duty increase in fuel tax has been introduced in the pre-budget report, which despite being presented as revenue neutral, will mean that fuel prices will rise over the next year and beyond. The move to increase fuel duty by 2p has been introduced to offset the rate cut in VAT from 17.5% to 15%. However, although the VAT holiday will last 13 months, the 2p duty rise is permanent. When VAT returns to 17.5% motorists will still be paying the higher rate fuel tax of 52.35p per litre and the higher rate VAT, making tax 74% of the total cost of a litre of fuel, and instantly boosting the cost of fuel by 2p a litre. If the Chancellor had instead announced scrapping duty and VAT, a litre of petrol would cost just 25p. The changes are designed to be neutral, but calculations by PetrolPrices.com show that there will be a slight increase at the pumps of 0.4p a litre, or 20p per average 50 litre tank of unleaded when the changes come into effect on December 1st. The fact that fuel prices will increase at all is contrary to the message from the Chancellor that the changes will be revenue neutral. Motorists and businesses will effectively be bearing the brunt of the costs involved with implementing changes to help the UK as it heads into a recession. Fuel is taxed twice – a fixed duty and percentage VAT. The changes mean that the fuel duty will be 52.35p per litre and VAT will be 15% from the 1st December. |

Very true petrol was cheaper because of the lack of competition until 1973.Thats how things should work. Its the duty part of the 88.9p thats the problem |

- Very true petrol was cheaper because of the lack of competition until 1973.Thats how things should work. Its the duty part of the 88.9p thats the problem - Products are usually more expensive with no competition! If there were no tax on petrol then there would have to be a tax on something else. That is the system of government we have. What would you rather pay tax on than on petrol? Of course we could dispense with government services, such as the NHS. Maybe that is what people want. |
