Nearly half of the squatters in London are Romanian, prompting fears of widespread vagrancy across the country when border restrictions are lifted next year. The figures will fuel growing concern about the number of Romanians and Bulgarians who will come to the UK when controls are lifted on January 1. Poles made up the second biggest national group, with 16 of its citizens prosecuted or cautioned for squatting. Conservative MP for Enfield North Nick de Bois claims the high number of Romanians should act as a ‘warning sign’. |
