IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Topic : Help me....I can't find my stop tap!! |
|

I'm currently renovating my house on Barrett street. I've got an internal stop tap but it leaks very slightly and I need to replace it. To do this I obviously need to turn off the supply from the outside (back street). Upon inspection to look for it I can't find it! I live at no.7 No's 3,9,11,13,15 have one. It just seems that No's 1,5 & 7 don't. Could anyone shed any light on this, any utility plans?? |

If there is one then it will be aligned with others on the street. Some older houses shared supplies If it does not shut the water off you can turn it off as much as possible then install a new one above the existing remembering to turn the existing one back on left in situ. If it is the gland nut then follow this www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9b1AxSxbgw Hope that helps, if not Yorkshire Water should be able to help |

If you have access to the pipe - use a freezer kit from Screwfix or Toolstation - worked for me. Stop tap in road wouldn't shut off the water supply, so used a freezer kit, froze the pipe where I wanted to put the stop cock, cut it, fitted the new one, waited for the frozen plug to thaw - and voila - working stop cock.
