This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Just been for a nice walk down town and thought we would take a stroll along the canal towpath. We were on the right side of the road but unfortunatly found the steps down to the canal blocked with a barrow, plants and a chained up gate.Does anyone one know if these steps do belong to the house at the side or is it supposed to be open to the public? We did cross the road and were able to get down that side but just curious about this pathway.

I always assumed that the steps on the Skipton side of the bridge were private. It looks like part of the house rather than a public footpath. As the steps by the pub are there I have never seen a problem.

the steps and gate belong to the top house on the bridge, they were used to bring stock for lizi annes shop which is now the top house,so the people who live in the house have every right to lock the gate.

The steps and part of the land beside canal belong to the house. The owners did open them up for a while but due to drunken fools coming from the pub, using them as a toilet and falling down them they had to be locked again. They have put a bench and made a bit of a garden for people to sit and enjoy the canal as long as they take their rubbish and dog dirt home with them. Again a case of the few spoiling it for everyone.

Re canal accesds... if you're coming from the Keighley side you can either go up the steps by the pub or underneath the bridge and then turn left into Sykes Lane and you're at the main road in a few strides.
