Bradford Council have cut hundreds of jobs but one department seems free from the prospect job cuts. Thats the councillors themselves. This is a great idea to cut one councillor from each ward. It could happen as early as next May by scrapping the forthcoming elections.....All in it together!!!

Better idea yet, sack most of them for gross incompetence. They are, at present, becoming less and less accountable for their actions (or lack of). When the "super council" idea was brought up in the T&A a few months ago, it was clear that no consultation with the general public would take place. It was down to each council to vote either way.

Incidentally, there has been no mention of the "super council" idea since the article in the T&A. Has anyone heard anything?

Some pretty disgusting facts about BMDC:

Bradford Council got nearly £1m from car parking charges in 2012, it is revealed.

Bradford Council leader David Green says Bradford Council is keeping more than £129m in reserve against the prospect of future Government spending cuts.

The Council announces the total cost of City Park – £24,569,664, not the £30m that was rumoured.

Bradford Council admits to planning to make a profit of £2.2m next year from car parking charges and fines.

Bradford Council’s executive committee accepts proposals to cut spending by a further £89m over the next two years in spite of public protests.

In spite of budget cuts, Bradford Council forecasts an underspend of £2.7m to the end of March 2014.

www.cravenherald.co.uk/news/10922755.Free_bus_passes_for_students_in_Silsden__Steeton_and_Addingham_could_end/

So BMDC are planning additional housing development in Silsden, yet reducing the infrastructure that would support such development!

The last time I used the bus service into North Yorkshire, it cost me £5 one way. I can't remember where I was bound for, it was aaa few years ago. Brie a minor to travel from the suggested areas to South Craven, you could potentially be looking at £50 per week, per child, 2 children - £100 per week, on an average of 36 weeks per year - £3,600 per year.

No money for frontline services, but they can spend £30 million on something like this! You could buy half of bradford for that!

It looks like all 3 of the proposals will be funded by the private sector, not Bradford Council, If the businesses are willing to invest best of luck to them, it can only improve the city.

Is councillor Thormnton for real? This is yet another reason for Silsden to go independent.

Would it not be a good idea to go back to the old system. I.e. Serving on the council being and honour, not a job. Many years ago on one of our soaps, a woman lost her seat on the council and had to get a job because she lost her income, that was the first time I realized that councillors were paid. The idea that you have to pay the best to get the best is disproved time and again. If councilors met in their own time meetings would be over much quicker. The chamber would be full of Men and Women interested in their local area rather than towing the party line and furthering their own careers in politics. The argument against would be clerical staff not wanting to work evenings, other people do.

Only a £1 000 000 from car parking. It should be nearer £10 000 000 and as for fines judging by all the offences I see that could go up by a factor of 100.

I have no problems with the council making money from car parking. It is the money wasted on useless things like public spaces, libraries and the like. Councils should concentrate on the useful like waste and roads.

Of course if they can get the money from more parking income that is fine by me.

Bradford Council
Over £1 million is to be spent improving Kirkgate in Bradford city centre.

A new Kirkgate square will be created at the junction with Darley Street and new natural stone paving will replace the existing concrete slabs and grey herringbone surface along the length of the road.

Semi-mature trees, raised grassy areas and informal granite seating similar to those in City Park will be installed making it a cleaner greener thoroughfare linking the Broadway development to the Ki...
