Following Peters comment on the closing of Silsden Petrol station (again), I feel the need to make this comment:
Supermarket fuel might be cheaper at the pump, but not if it costs you for replacement engine components due to the additives they often put into their fuel. As with anything else, they buy in bulk, sell it cheap - the old Ken Morrison principle "Pile it high, sell it cheap".
I've been using the Co-op at Crosshills, which supplies Texaco, allowing me to use the rewards card and my Co-op membership card simultaneously. It's not the cheapest fuel, but the car seems to like it.
Fuel prices and forecourt ownership are a license to rip people off. How can Morrisons at Keighley charge 6p a litre less than the Skipton branch? They are both accessible by major road networks. Don't get me started on Tesco Ilkley and Skipton comparisons! |

I have run 7 different cars in the last 20 years, all on supermarket unleaded petrol, and never had a problem with engines. The petrol has to meet certain standards by law, and the supermarkets would not be allowed to sell it if it were defective. There is local pricing and I would never buy petrol in Ilkley, because they charge more... less competition I guess. Texaco in Keighley reduce their prices to same as Asda for 2 days each week. Back to people choosing a product for themselves, it's a free world... |
