Over the christmas period my wheelie bin got broken by the bin men (apparently they are very easy to break in very very cold weather with rough handling). I phoned the council and was told they would send somebody out to assess my bin could take 4 to 6 weeks! I was told to leave in in the back alley way so the council had access to it. Put my damaged bin out for the bin men thurs and now it has magically dissapeared !!! Phoned the council again got a real arrogant **** who told me the bin men won't have taken it and i now have to wait for a form to be sent to me to say the bin has been stolen then it could take another 4 weeks to get a bin !!!! Am i right to feel very cross with the council as they broke the bin then told me to leave it out so it can go missing ??? Am waiting for a call back from the council regarding this no doubt i'll be waiting a very long time !!!angry

They said they would send me a form out but thanks for that. why on earth would anybody steal a 1 wheeled wheelie bin with very big split in it ??? Bin men have taken it i suspect. In the meantime my rubbish is getting dumped in black bags (and probably strewn all over silsden by the cats) and all the council can say is fill a form in and wait 4 weeks !!!!!!!!!!!!

Ha Ha sorted ! Just phoned the council back seen as they were not going to call me !I spoke to a lovely lady who said straight away that the bin men have clearly taken the bin as they are not allowed to move them for health and safety reasons if they are damaged and she would get a new bin out to me by the end of the week! So much for the arrogant T**T who just kept spouting the councils policy to me this morning, clearly all it takes is a bit of common sense to see what had actually happened to the bin !!!!

When we moved into our current house, our wheely bin was a complete mess, cracked on 3 sides and the lid was hanging off. I think it took about 10 weeks for the council to get round to sending us a new one. I think after about 6 weeks I sent them a nasty email about infection control and vermin. But they still kept fobbing us off, then eventually one did appear.

Just be prepared for a long wait. They don't seem keen on handing them out and judging by the amount of cracked and lidless bins you see it doesn't make you feelthey are taking the issue seriously.

When we moved to our present home, we inherited what could only be described as a thoroughly disgusting bin. I rang the powers that be, and within days the afore said offending bin was replaced, so our experience was so different to ClaraCs. Then again, it was 6 years ago. Staff and policies no doubt have changed.
