Oh isnt our local (bradford) planning department great!laugh :D

the council have refused permission to build a wind turbine, this is not a discussion about what you think about them I like them but that is just me!
the interesting factor is the grounds they have refused permission.
firstly we know they would not get any financial gain from it, therefor not interested!
but there argument was
because it would “substantially detract” from the surrounding landscape.
They recognised that the turbine would provide green energy, but added: “We must balance the weight of these considerations against the substantial weight which must be attached to the visual harm to this sensitive and fragile upland landscape.”
so some of the builfing projects planned would, in my opinion, substantially detract” from the surrounding landscape! I prefer fields to houses!

any one else see a little irony in there reply?

Makes you wonder if successful planning applications are in house or someone gets a backhander. No proof just makes you wonder.

Your right my spelling is terrible. I put "of" instead of "or". Corrected now.

I did not make any accusations. But some recent successful applications go against common sense. If your application looks like it might not pass then the next minute the council says the developer will give x amount to the council which will go to schools. Is this a backhander?. I think yes and it makes me wonder what else goes on.
Its a personal view of the way Bradford planning seems to work in my opinion.

most turbine applications are granted when they go to appeal in Bristol
certainly all the ones the town council has denied recently have been overturned

(personally from info i have recieved from an engineer that has worked in this field they are a folly in the 15 - 20 years they are in place the carbon footprint is never reveresed on the amount it costs to make them)

They are seen as green energy though so the government wants them
i think in this country investment in wave technology would be best

On a cold windless night in the middle of winter what do all the 'green' energy proponents do. Suppose they start up their ethanol powered generator.

While all these 'green' systems have their place there really is no alternative to a nuclear future. Future generations will no doubt look back on this era and the objections to nuclear power in the same way we look back and wonder what people believed in the middle ages.

mr B L Zeebub must have skated to work this morning as i couldnt agree more with Old Miner on this one
i think Nuclear is the way forward
You do of course need an integrated power system though with other options

Don't forget fracking....the gas has transformed the US economy, and it would do the same for us....if we get on with it happy :)

I am all in favor of Nuclear energy, clean, safe and many years before we run out, yes there is a concern over who gets the waste! but still.
Green energy is a supplement, hydroelectric very low carbon footprint.
the carbon footprint is high of wind (building) but a lot lower than many others

The US is a country of wide open spaces so exercises like 'fracking' are not always on somebodies doorstep as they are on these crowded isles.
There is also the question of Geology. In the US there were oil and gas fields that have run out. Fracking gets the left overs from these fields. In our case fracking in the North Sea would seem reasonable, if it is possible at sea.
Whatever there are high costs up front so it really is pie in the sky for cheaper gas.
The future is:
Large nuclear plants producing cheap electricity which is used to produce hydrogen from water which can then run smaller machines via current ic technology or further dvelopments of fuel cell technology.

A new nuclear plant costs £14bn , and we need 4 of them. Do the math.
Fracking would be much cheaper.
I'm not against nuclear, it needs a balanced approach, or the the lights WILL go out.

wind turbines what a joke ok if you are a rich farmer who will now get richer off these eye sores i would ban the lot of them, fracking is the way forward the pc/hippy brigade would be the first to start moaning when the lights go out.
