IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Topic : Parking on Yellow Lines |

As I said in a recent post of mine I may be a grumpy old manTM so take a big pinch of salt before reading. I am well and truly cheesed off with idiots, well no, not idiots because they could be intelligent folk who are just ignorant/arrogant/thoughtless (*delete as applicable) and think that the law about not parking on double yellow lines does not apply to them. I see it in lots of places but the one closest to home that annoys me is just outside the Co-op. The lower part of Hillcrest Avenue leading onto Bell Square has DYL (double yellow lines) on the side of the road next to the Co-op and none on the other side. I often see people park on the DYL just level with the Co-op entrance!! ![]() There is absolutely no need for this because: 1. there is a car park outside the co-op!! 2. there is the other free car park next to Paul's hardware, 30 seconds away. 3. there is very often space on the other side of the road. When these fools park on the DYL like this is then reduces the road to a single lane. You may say 'Weeeell, don't stress about having to wait an extra 30 seconds for someone to come around them before you can get past.' If so then you've missed my point that this is completely unecessary and only the result of a handful of people being inconsiderate. But this is more than just a rant, I intend to do something about this, I'm not sure what at this stage, but I will let you know when I find out. Maybe there is some kind of parking extension to the Local Residents Speedwatch Programme. I haven't been able to get thru to the Ilkley police station yet to find out. Does anyone else have any ideas? I have tried approaching people directly in a polite manner to point out the DYL to them but as you can expect from people ignorant enough to do it in the first place all you get is abuse or ignored. ![]() Rant over...back to the phone. Jonno. |

Though I agree with you one hundred percent "jonno" I'll watch what happens with interest as it's an unadopted road as I understand it. This, I presume, means that the lines are unenforceable! |

That's quite an interesting point Alan. I wonder if the police check such things before issuing fines etc. I bet they don't. i have a mate who's a copper, I'll ask him what he thinks, although he's only a probationer still. Jonno. |

That is interesting. I thought the council paid for painting the yellow lines. if unadopted then what right do they have to do this. Could this either be vandalism or set the president that they are responsible for the road (adopted by default)? |

Adopted by default...hmmm. This could be an angle that no-one has thought of before. I'll check with the guy that runs www.thestreetsofsilsden.co.uk as he seems to be one of the de-facto experts on the matter. I'll let u know what I find out. |

Well no reply yet from the "streetsofsilsden" website but my copper mate says they will enforce the DYL. I got so fed up on Sunday that I took photo's of 3 cars there and emailed them to the neighborhood police team and got a reply an hour later to say that there are now more PCSOs assigend to silsedn and they will be making regular checks on Hillcrest and ticketing people, so warn your friends and neighbours!! |
