Has anyone else resident behind the main street noticed an increase in drunken crime since the introduction of CCTV in the town centre? All the CCTV has done is move the crime away from the centre into the residential areas. Does anyone know how many have been caught and charged due to the CCTV? It would be interesting to know... not many, IF any I'd imagine.
We have once again suffered drunken youths jumping along our parked cars damaging all cars involved. Earlier in the year I called for police to come and sort out a gang of youths stoning the cars. They kindly informed me when they arrived that unless the actual stone can be traced to the damage and to the person throwing it nothing can be done. I even supplied some of the youths names to the officer and still they said nothing could be done.
I know we have a problem in town of a zero police presence, but does it do any good even when they do arrive? I hope you have better luck than me. |

The sad thing is that the camera was only on loan, I think that it has now been taken away.
But the answer to your question, I suspect is probably a big ZERO!
The thing I have trouble getting my head round is that other police forces now say that there is no replacment for bobbies on the beat, when will West Yorks really admit that?
As for our PCSO, I have no doubt he does an excellent job. But, with limited powers what can he do? I'd settle for more PCSO's on the beat if they gave them REAL powers! |

when the police do turn up they usually turn up for incidents mistaken for crime... e.g.
me and a few friends were walking along howden road when we recieved a missed call from another mate. we went to the phone box at the bottom of the road and rang him back. when my friend had rang him, he backed out of the phone box and got hit on the head by the metal hinge (which youths prolly broke). someone must have seen this and thought we were breaking into the phone box (somehow?!?!?) so yes, the police were called. a community officer came and stopped us and said we had to wait 10mins for a car to come from keighley. so it did and they came, assesed the situation before realising that the caller was a paranoid old lady and we had done nothing wrong.
incompitant police and nosey neibourghs cause more trouble than us.

Alan/Noodle. There will be a second PCSO for the craven ward area starting at the begining of March. Their powers have been increased. Police or neighbours hhaven't caused all the mess at both the skate park and the muga drunken youths have. Don't blame the police for all the problems better to blame the parents of the yobs out at all hours. |

I agree grandad. But not all parents are as good as you or I That's why we need the police. You know as well as I do grandad that bobbies on the beat, the old-fashioned way, is the way to police! It's not just the youngsters it's all the petty stuff and nuisance that goes unchallenged without some control, i.e. parking on pavements, crossings, petty vandalism, etc etc. This town pays enough to the police for a presence we should get it! Even the CCTV camera has now been taken away!!! |

to some extent I agree with you alan, but if the people of silsden who complain about others doing wrong didn't also committ the offences i.e. parking on double yellow lines or pavements just because they are to lazy to walk a few yards, then most of the problems would not take place. It is all about personal responsibility. |

Sorry Alan, I don't understand what is boring about respecting other people and not doing things that are illegal. You can't on the one hand say there are not enough police persons on the beat; then say it it would be boring if there was not anyone doing the very things you are expecting the police to stop happening. Me thinks you speak with a forked tonque. |

I was just using a little humour "grandad".
Even the best of us do something we shouldn't from time to time. That's what makes us mere humans! |
