IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Topic : Parking on the pavement |
|
| offcumden |
Why are cars parked partially (or wholly) on the pavement? From reading another thread there appears to be three main reasons given for drivers parking on the pavement: 1. They are concerned that parking on the road at the kerbside may cause an obstruction. (Having acknowledged this they should seek a more suitable place to park) 2. lack of residential parking space - this does not give drivers the right to break the law (in some cases people could make more use of their garages & drives) 3. Loading/unloading - it is still not allowed (unless the goods vehicle has a maximum laden weight of over 7.5 tonnes - including any trailer) What it boils down to is that drivers who park illegally on any part of the pavement are just too lazy and inconsiderate to park further away in the nearest legal spot. Since it is clear from the "Highway Code" that drivers should NOT park on the pavement in any way ( www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Highwaycode/DG_069860 ) if this issue becomes a problem then either steps should be taken to enforce the parking laws or the laws should be amended. |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) Where should the good people of Gloucester Avenue park? Incidently the link to the Highway Code only says you must not park on the pavement in London. We are in Silsden. In Silsden, as in the rest of the country you should not park on the pavement unless signs permit it, in which case you can.It does not say you must not unless signs permit it.There is a difference between "must not" and "should not". |

If it's in the Highway code as "should not" Gazzer I think it might be advisable not to do it. |

There is no right to park on the highway. If there is no where to park on your property then it might be a case of having to 'walk' to a vehicle parked elsewhere. Tough, but life ain't fair. |

once again wahiba im guessing you have a garage or driveway as far as im aware theres no problem with parking on the roadside as long as its not on lines areas or causing an obstruction |

There is 'no problem' because the majority want it that way. However most people being hypocrites they like to complain about other peoples parking that affects them. What might have happened if parking on roads had been a no no from the beginning. Stopping to load and unload, fine. Stopping to provide maintenance on the road, fine. Stopping to provide essential services, fine. But parking just becasue one cannot be bothered to organise off road parking? |

I can sleep at night knowing that I dont have concrete/tarmac drive that maybe one of the causes the flooding on Keighley Road/Belton Rd because rather than soaking into the ground the water rush's straight into the water course's. From today anyone thinking about forming a driveway you need planning permission. And dont forget if you are one of the lucky people with a drive and are thinking of replacing the surface you too need planning permission!!!! |

quoteAnd dont forget if you are one of the lucky people with a drive and are thinking of replacing the surface you too need planning permission!!!! Which you will get because the planners have bigger fish to fry and can't be bothered with such trivial applications. And before you say how do I know, I asked an ex-planning officer. |

Easy 'gazzer' just use Grascrete or a porous tarmac, problem solved |

'''so do you believe there are garages for hire for every terraced house in silsden? i very much doubt there is even enough for 1% of the terraces''' There is a lot of space around Silsden that could be hired out as long term car parking. Modern drain through surfaces would make it a viable proposition for some fields to be converted. |
