Posted on behalf of Richard:

These photographs where taken at about 1200 today at the end of
TUFTON Street. It should be noted that ample parking spaces where available down TUFTON Street at the time the pictures where taken.

It is their choice to park their, and their concern of their vehicle ets damaged by a passing car, emergency vehicles would be screwed if they were trying to get down the street though. People just do not think when they park up, I may be wrong but is it not ilegal or at the very least forbidden in the highway code to double park? If nothing else it is rude and anti-social

I think if you look at the parking regs you should't park so close to a junction and as such the cars are already commiting a parking offence. However I've got to agree the parking at the bottom of Skipton road is down right dangerous. Trouble is there are so many cars these days and most of Silsden just can't cope with the number trying to park near homes overnight.

The pictures were taken midday sad :( I would guess most of the drivers of the vehicles parked between Tuffton Street and Hothfield Street are visiting the dentist.

The Highways are for travelling on. Other than to load or unload there should be no reason to stop on the highway.

Unfortunately over the years the idea that one is allowed to 'park' on the highway has been established and it would be a brave politician who went against it.

It is an offence to obstruct the highway and technically any parked vehicle could be construed as causing an obstruction. The apocryphal tale I was told was off the fire engine that went down a street of double parked cars, clipping every one. The owners were up in arms as the police arrive. They were all duly booked for obstruction and had to cough up for the damage to the fire engine.

Actually corner parking seems to be a problem all over Silsden. If you know of a situation where this type of parking makes it dangerous to move out from a junction then write to the Highways department. Keep a copy. if someone gets wiped out at said junction due to parked vehicles obstructing their view then I think the lawyers for the victim would be happy to hear from you.

A bit of council paint would cost the council less than a mega bucks law suit. Unfortunately I expect that is what it will take to resolve this common problem. I just hope I am not the claimant, because if I am then Ings Way will have become an expensive car park for the local authority and their insurers.

Should see the corner of Gloucester Avenue and Cornwall, had quite a few nearer misses, and not through the fault of either driver....but the parking on the corners making this a blind spot

Along similar lines I have noticed the parking situation on the canal bridge is bad again. Outisde the gym is often a nightmare and now the bridge inn is being renovated there are a number of vans parked on the bridge. Apart from the dangers of parking on blind brows do these people not know their Highway Code as all the residents of the houses around the bridge were reminded by the local police parking in the no overtaking zone close to the bridge incurs a fine and 3 points on your driving lisence

I mentioned the Skipton road parking over 12 months ago but no body was interested as they were too busy having a go at parking at the sports field. Next to rear its head will be the speed in which some people drive around the streets of Silsden nothing ever happens to sort this problem. What about the 20mph limit being enforced while we are about these road problems.

Dogcatcher, you should go to the Silsden Council Meeting next Thursday (5 April, 7.30pm, Town Hall) and ask the question there. I'm sure they would love to see you. At the end of the day this forum is just a talking shop... but it does mean you can air your feelings publicly and with some level of anonymity. happy :)
