This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Is this the only survey thats been carried out as unfortunately not many people responded (probably because not many people bother to comment on here)
Does anyone know whether someone has asked people out on the streets and if so what the result was.
Not really a true reflection of what silsden wants when only 59 people have responded

I disagree, as surveys go this was quite a good response and there are no wild fluctuations in the answers. There are a few more survey forms which were completed by "Fodder" customers but I can only provide the results of the forms completed electronically. There are one or two double entries in the results but I felt they did not change the result enough to worry about.

If you would like a copy of the survey form to print and carry out your own survey to supplement the results I will be happy to provide the pdf form to print.

A point to ponder on - political surveys (polls) usually have about 1000 respondents and those 1000 opinions are supposed to represent the views of the population of the UK.

We at Fodder have submitted our returned surveys to the town clerk today. Very opposing views to the on-line results

Actually 59 is a reasonable number for Silsden.

However, the main conclusion for a Farmers market on the first Saturday of the month when there is one in Skipton on the 1st Sunday suggests a lack of reality. The one in Skipton is beside a big car park the likes of which does not exist in Silsden.

Hi wahiba, the questions were open as to what type of market and when to hold it. Potential market shoppers DO shop in Silsden and probably don't go to Skipton Farmers Market - a mixed general market was a close second choice! Practicality had nothing to do with the questions, the aim was to find out what people as individuals actually wanted.

There are no conclusions on the document just results. Conclusions need a little more time. happy :)

well done for all that completed the survey on line. This topic has invited good debate and all views are welcome and no decisions will be taken untill all points of view are taken into consideration. The Town council meets this Thursday to discuss the matter further I will keep you informed. Just some points to bare in mind
the type of market we would end up with will be dependant upon who would be prepared to come to ply there trade in Silsden
the when, will be effected by competitor markets in the area. Carparking will still be a major point for discussion

I shop in Silsden and I go to Skipton farmers market most months.

The bottom line on a Silsden market is parking.

Where?

I attended the council meeting, as an observer, when the subject of the market was discussed

Last month a survey asking people what they thought of the idea of a market in Silsden was conducted. The survey was in two forms, an online survey, the results of which you can see on this site, and a paper version which was organised by Fodder. The paper version was a printed version of the online questions.

There was a discussion about the survey results. While the majority said they thought a market was a good idea there was a significant number who disagreed. All who completed the survey shopped in Silsden, mostly on Saturdays but also during the week.

The favourite day for a market was Saturday and the majority would like a Farmers Market.

However, there was no guarantee of the type of market which could have been provided and this could have potentially been to the detriment of our existing shops which do most of their business on a Saturday.

The majority of the concerns expressed in the survey replies were concerned with parking and the lack of it, a market would not have helped.

After discussing the results of the survey the council decided not to proceed with the setting up of a market in Silsden. It was felt the survey suggested there was not enough in favour of the idea and parking would be a problem. The type of market, and the day on which it could be held would be out of Silsden Town Council control and it could be damaging to local business.

I think there were 6.

Having heard the results of the paper surveys and the lack of control available to STC on the type of market it could have put existing shops out of business. I believe they made the correct decision.

They made the only possible decision - it is a nice idea, but....

However, when the petrol has run out and cars are no more then it will be time to think again.happy :)
