This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

I attended the neighbourhood forum meeting on Wednesday 7th November where the refurbishment of the Town Hall was on the agenda. I was glad to see the Town Mayor express his support for the scheme. This was on the proviso that the user groups are happy with proposed changes to the building. Since the user groups are part of the committee working with the council on the plans, I think it is unlikely anything will be accepted that does not meet their requirements. Concern was expressed at the meeting about disabled access and we were told the council is in consultation with a number of groups who have the expertise to advise on this matter. We are now waiting for a decision from Bradford Council as to whether it intends to move the process forward to the detailed planning stage. This looks more positive now that the Silsden community is presenting a united front.

Perhaps it would be wise to contact potential user groups as well. There must be a reason why some groups don't (or can't) use the Town Hall.

This topic appears to me to be another one started by people with a vested interest in seeing the centre of Silsden destroyed, and I can't help wondering WHY?

but.... which topic in particular would you like the comments transfered to?

We would all like the Town Hall to be made disabled compliant and refurbished but at what cost? It was stated at the Neighbourhood Forum meeting there were £185K of outstanding repairs required but there was no breakdown of the work required. As far as I know the roof isn't leaking and the place is still standing, although the windows do need cleaning. happy :)

If £185K of repairs are required then they should have been funded by Bradford Met and they are a gesimated costing for anticipated maintenance which dates back to 2007 (I think) ie the repairs may not be required.

We are being asked to sell off our assets to fund Bradford's incompetence. angry

I am sick to the back teeth of the whingers ( though only a small minority )that constantly criticize our hard working Mayor and town councilors regarding the renovation of our Town Hall including the sale of our library and Wesley Place,if they had bothered to attend the planning meeting on the 11th of September they would have heard Nigel of B.M.C. Asset Management confirm the building has been under maintained for years. After looking at the draft plans and a discussion with the planning committee who also listened to the comments of the public, it was unanimously agreed that asset management should bring final plans to S.T.C.For discussion, who would then call a full public meeting for your views before taking any action. surly this is the democratic way forward supported by our Mayor and council !! Perhaps the whingers will tell us why B.M.C. renaged on what they agreed with S.T.C. planning in front of members of the public and then try to pass it through a neighbourhood forum ? why have we had no maintenance of our town hall for years although it should have been maintained out of our council tax we pay ??Why can B.M.C. justify spending £25 million on a so called lake plus the maintenance costs yet the good people of Silsden must sell their assets to up grade the town hall !! so I look forward like the majority of Silsdeners to the whingers comments ??

By the way that narrow, small minded person that said they could not trust our Mayor, I say get a life look around you at the big picture instead of your own short sighted views !! I feel sure you will agree that constructive criticism and debate is far more productive than insults !! However we still have free speech and democracy,so I feel sure that like me the good people of Silsden look forward to hearing your pearl's of wisdom and knowledge ??

And so the consultation is now over then??

What consultation?

I attended the meeting, signed in, gave my email address for updates as requested. What have I had back from them? - SFA

Public Consultation? Not likely!

There is only one way that this can go and it is NOT in the best interests of the Silsden populace!!

What is the latest on this? The last minutes from STC are 1st of November and nothing that stands out on the web.

It was stated at the meeting that a decision HAS to be made within a couple of weeks, or the finance will "disappear".

First thing they should do is put the siren back on the top of the gable-end. For the benefit of off-cummed-uns and the under 50's, it went off whenever the fire brigade were called out and created a sense of excitement in the town unheard of since the church clock hands were stolen.

nabend, What finance? the way I read it Bradford AKA Mallinson intends to steal our property i.e. the library and other property then spend a bit of it making the Town hall a bit fancy but still useless, and run off with the rest of the money!

Two months later, still no word from BMDC, nothing in the town council minutes, nothing on Silsden.net (that I have come across).

Where has the £300,000 gone that was "allegedly" available? What plans are being devised behind closed doors for the town hall, Wesley Place and library???

The town hall, as stated, is not accessible for the disabled. Any business failing to make provision for disabled persons are in breach of the law under the Disability Discrimination Act 2005. Is this a case of because it is BMDC, they are exempt from the law?

this post has been edited 1 time(s)

Thank you for the link Peter, I had read the minutes earlier this evening. I didn't read anything definitive into it. There is nothing related to budgeting, timescales or public consultation.

As someone who took the time to attend the meeting, ticked all the boxes and all the rest, I am annoyed that BMDC cannot events be bothered to follow it up with a globally sent email or a public statement in a local paper. It adds to the impression of underhand dealings!
