We used to regularly go to Deshi, particularly on a Sunday night for their set price menu... it was very good most of the time. Service was always OK, but the last few times we went (back in the Summer) there was always something going on with the staff, people not turning up, chef coming out taking the order ect....

We then tried Purple Garlic, and the food and service is far superior, and the atmosphere in the restaurant is good. Portions size is fab..... so for me its Purple Garlic!!!

Purple Garlic, for me. Nice and clean spot, friendly and professional staff, good and cheap food (other day, 35quid for 3 meals+starters). happy :)

Haven't been to the Deshi since they abandoned BYO and got a drinks licence. Judging by the lack of trade when ever I look in, I'm not the only one. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!

But have they abandoned the BYO... when I was last there in the Summer people still took their own drinks... and when I spoke to the waiters about it, they said that they still allowed BYO, and that they would be operating both systems......

Interesting. They told us they were "phasing out" BYO, so we phased them out instead.
Has anyone visited more recently?

rat celler bradford still one of the best karachi social club is also still spot on and you always get a great welcome from there fantastic waiter who every one who goes in is greeted like a long lost old friend both places are still finger eating which help make the meals seem to taste better. Rick Stein loved the karachi when he visited it report below

It's a great curry at the Karachi. The toilets, however, are not for the faint-hearted.

the rat cellar (Kashmir) is, and always will be my favourite. her indoors and myself go regularly and for ten quid we both get a shami kebab and side salad with yogurt sauce, a keema madras, pilau rice, chapatis, poppadoms.I've been going there for forty years! nothing in silsden comes close, although i wish there was.
