Young child killed because of the lack of paint
This is a headline which I hope we will never see in Silsden but it could happen!
Yesterday morning I had to take my wife to the station because there wasn't a bus which connected with the train (but that's another story). I was struck by the lack of white line markings going through Kirkgate - it was raining, but the visability was good.
All the white and the yellow road markings have worn off, no wonder drivers think they can park anywhere. More importantly the zebra crossing markings have worn out, and in the rain yesterday, the only indication of the zebra crossings was the belisha beacons.
The white and yellow parking lines should be renewed as a matter of urgency before we have to read about an injury or fatality in Silsden highstreet.
The stop line coming onto Bolton Road from Bell Square is non existent, there was an accident there the other day (daylight at about 4pm) |

Let's hope those who are hoping to be elected to the District Council next week are reading this! |

Sadly Alan the powers that be,even if they read this, won't do anything. Usually takes much more to stirr them. But i am in total agreement with you. The driving is bad enough without the lines being faded |

i have been asking for lines to be redone around bell square for years but as usual it falls on deaf ears in bradford. the town clerk will no doubt have to CHASE up again as USUAL. |

The roads lining around Bell Square have now been painted but it seems to be a bit of a “Jobs Worth”, although the cross road junction has been painted the junction onto Bolton Road has not. The Bell square / Bolton Road junction is potentially more dangerous but there isn’t a white stop line visible – worn off long ago.
Going back to the original message on this thread, I was standing at the crossing outside Picturesque on Friday waiting to cross. I refuse to step onto the crossing unless I can see the oncoming car is going to stop, which on this occasion was just as well. The only traffic was a 4 x 4 about 50 m away by the beck but he didn’t slow down and didn’t even seem to see the crossing, or me, even though I waved at him as he continued on his way oblivious to the fact that a zebra crossing existed.
The crossings in Silsden should be repainted as a matter of urgency. The one at the bottom of Elliott Street is very difficult to see and our children frequently cross that one on their way to and from school. |

The secret with Silsden pedestrian crossings is to step out, but be ready to leap back. I get plenty of black looks from the b*****s I make stop. Modern cars have good brakes, but make sure you are always looking at the driver. If in doubt, ie. they are on the phone! chicken out. |

A pelican crossing would be nice but when and how much?
A bit of white paint would cost a few pounds and could be done tomorrow. It's not just the crossings its all the road markings in Silsden.... they are worn out and need renewing NOW! |

Paint cost about £1/m
so
3 crossing = 40K x 3 = 120K = 120,000m of white lines (or yellow)
But Bradmet can't paint our crossings to make them safe to use. |

This is what I don't undertand it would cost much less to paint the white lines and the croasings than to pay for Inquests, Compensation, hospital bills, if anything were to go fatally wrong on the crossing. |

There was a collision between a bus and car this afternoon outside the Kings Arms. Was the lack of paint at the junction a contributing factor? |

If it was an illegally parked car then serves them right - hope no blame goes to the bus driver and the car driver is prosecuted for obstruction.
Yesterday watched a big artic crawl through the town, as it passed noticed driver had mobile phone to ear and one hand on wheel!!! |

did you take his number wahiba? maybe if we all noted the numbers or company names and reported them it might make a difference. I usually make a point of gesticulating to drivers who I see with phones, it usually works most of them put the phone down. Its amazing how many people use their phones, just walking through silsden or waiting at the bus stop I can guarantee that I will see at least half a dozen.Maybe the pcso's should have a blitz day, just stand in the main street for a few hours taking reg numbers then following it up |

I fully agree! I am oftenly driving around Silsden not knowing wheres able to park or where not to do such and such!
The lines seriously need a re-paint! |
