I have worked in Schools in Grimsby for the past 25 years, the School I am working in is only 3 years old, but the building is not a patch on the 132 year old Aire view school. Built to last and being built of stone looks great, are you as proud of our old school as me ? |

I'm sure that the staff and governors would be very pleased to hear you say that.
I know that the current head has worked very hard over the years to improve the school, and she certainly has succeeded.
It's a far better school in lots of ways than when I first walked through the doors to enrol my son in the nursery. He's now at university! |

When I first started school in Silsden at the age of 5 the nursery was at the junction of Elliot str. and Prince str. It was run by Mrs Southwell. When we moved up to Aire View Miss Clark was the head.It was avery happy school, and every body new each other. |

I also remember Mrs Southwell, she was my class teacher, way back in 1960, her husband was also my teacher in about late1966/early1967, though he was a teacher at Hoffield street school. Alan Grosschmidt its been a long time since we last spoke, did'nt know you'd took up teaching even..... |

In the late 60s top school was one of the best in the area with teachers of avery high standard. Teachers like Mr Rundle (joker) Mr Hagart (charlie) and all the others did great for Silsden and Addingham kids |

There must be a wealth of information re-Silsden's schools, my Grandmothers, Parents, oneself, and daughter all went there, sadly the line ends as daughter lives in foreign parts (Steeton)
I started there in '57 going on the 'Top' School, I remember Charlie Haggart, Sammy Davis, The One armed Bandit, Barbara Waugh, Geoffrey (your in bother) Rundle, the Caretaker (Killer) Clarkson
Perhaps we should pool our knowledge, the website manager may be able to help |

I remember all those teachers in the top school and commando Kelly the gym teacher, sadly we were the last proper first form before we all were forced to move to south Craven, the local council sold us down the river. |

RE Dungeons. As I remember they were the steps down to the Gym boiler room. I dont remember seeing anyone thrown down. But they were an ever present threat to first form boys, unthinkable now, what litigation would follow.
Doe's anyone remember the decision to restrict the famous London Trip to girls only, following trouble one year. Again would they dare do that now? |
