myself and my friends on facebook have been running a game, see who can spot the work force.
I know a guy who was asked to come in and build the stone work, he said they are months behind, because they are busy elsewhere.
he also said it was supposed to be going all the way down to the houses below ,
he reckons it will be there for months.
its pathetic, why use a contractor who cant cope, and why not have them on a penalty clause like any normal client would,
they can take as long as they want...................... |

These works are a shambles, nothing is moving, and a lot of Silsden people are affected every day. The bad roadworks currently in Ilkley have had many complaints made, and now the Gas people are going to put engineers in there 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, to solve the problem. Now the works could be completed ahead of schedule. Can anyone in authority put some action into Feathers at Cringles? They don't seem to care when it will be finished... |

The original sign did say works till April, so maybe the penalty clause will start then? |

There were loads of workmen working on the wall at Cringles on Good Friday, perhaps money talks but who was paying them? |

Must have been double time on Good Friday.... they haven't been back since, other than to play around with some branches.... sorry Peter... I know they haven't been back because a lot of the road signs have fallen over, and not been stood up again.. God knows what it's all costing in money and traffic delays |

i'm glad its not just me and people I know who are totally p155ed off with the "great wall of Cringles" I travel to Silsden (Naylor myers ) and my Yard 2 or 3 times a day , it gets me to boiling point some times, totally dry and fine and not one single man on site, or at best 1 lad popping a few top stones on, this week ive seen "structural testing " vans and men there ..........I actually shurrederd to think they may have built it wrong ?????
the fact it actually looks awful is almost a non consequence as its taken so long.
I run a construction company, when the wall started we started building a house in Ilkley, we've finished it and are now on another contract and they still haven't finished the wall, what should have been an 8 week job on the top side.
I was thinking of getting a large sign made
"Rome wasn't built in a day but it was quicker than this"
see if I can shame them into them moving faster........I wouldn't hold my breathe........
ive tried ringing the numbers to complain, and it went through to Bradford met and a long wait, I know people who've rung up every day , and got no where .
someone should be roasted for the debacle at that wall.............. |

ginjo - it's J and N Feather, they do all this type of work on behalf of Bradford council. I spoke to the owner when they were doing the bridge @ Aldi through the night and they said Brad Met forced them to start work up cringles as they had to get it in last years spending, despite him advising them it was too cold/wet to do so...... maybe the problem lies at the council and not with the firm doing the job?? |

Interesting info... but there have been many fair days when work could have been done, but no one was there doing it. As always, ranks are closed, and no one takes responsibility for delays, it's always someone else's fault. That's how these things work, and Joe Public just has to take it on the chin every time. |

dexter, to make things worse - they are in the process of re-designing the wall by Aldi all the way from the Jet garage almost to Belton road - so expect more delays!! |

If it looks as bad as the Cringles wall, which does not blend (apart from the topping) with nearby walls, then we are in for a real treat...! Does the designer work for Lego..? I'm off to put the kettle on, cup of tea is the answer, then a lie down in a dark room.. Thanks for the info twigg93, I'm now ready for even more delays. Just hope they don't shut Aldi down while they do it..! |

I know someone who was approached by Feathers to build "the Great wall of Cringles", he has a few lads but was too busy . they told him , the council gives them loads of work, some is good and well paid and some is poor, this was a poorly paid one (a loss leader was how he put it) hence they don't care about it and only send men when it suits them, hence the mass of men on good Friday, double time you see. my mate said "what about all the traffic delays"
the reply was............
"none of us lives round here so whats it matter to us "
its appalling, it could have been done in 5 weeks, and using a decent stone that matched.
apparently the gentleman who lives just below is the councils person who deals with works of this nature and it was he who pushed for this wall to be done, when many felt it wasn't even needed
I may be wrong but I think they've been there 7 months now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Would the job not be quoted and not day rate so no extra for Good Friday and Good Friday is not a holiday for builders who traditionaly have Easter week off |

Feathers would be on a price to the council , but their lads would be on day rate to Feathers, |

if you drive past now , look at the 30 metres of wall lower down, toward Addingham. all the top stones have been removed and they are being used on the new wall.
I may be wrong ,but that would surely lead one to believe that the lower wall is going to be done soon after .....................
deep joy, another 6 months of traffic lights .... |

If they are using the top stones from the wall lower down for the new wall, what happened to the top stones from the original wall? |

we'll probably find out when they get to the bottom.......
judging by the rest of the work, they will probably use concrete flags on top laid flat ............................. |

They have now extended the work they are doing, a further section of wall has been taken down and if it takes as long to replace this new section I can see them been there till around October.. |

If this is true, this unnecessary fiasco should never have happened, and he should be sent the bill... not the taxpayer..! The work is not crucial, and the money could be better spent elsewhere. And that does not include all the petrol wasted sitting at the lights, and the extra pollution. |

The man who lives just below spends most of his time at home - look out for his black 4 wheel drive - can't believe Bradford Met are paying his wages. |

I drove past this joke of works again yesterday, the traffic lights have moved further down the road and they now appear to have started on the wall above the tunnel under the road, where is this going to end? Addingham!!!!. There was certainly didn't appear to be anything wrong with this wall if you look at the tour De France pictures. I also have a question, what has happened to all the old stone from the original wall??? has it been sold by BMDC to go towards the cost of this eye sore,it would be interesting if the council could answer that one. The inspector who authorised this, especially if it is true that he lives near this work, and from what has been said previously is being paid for being at home, needs bringing to task by his employer, especially when there appears to be hardly any monies to repair the state of the roads or fill in potholes. What a shame that this area of road has been ruined by this wall which is totally out of character for this area. |

Would I be right in thinking that if you submitted plans to build in the countryside the planning authority would insist that what you wanted to build would have to be in keeping with the surrounding area ? why has this not happened with this ugly wall, I am sure we still have some dry stone waller around. As there seems to be such much local concern and disgust could we not start with a petition to have it removed and rebuilt. |

Dry stone walling is a slow and expensive process, however I bet it would be quicker and cheaper then this monstrosity and look a lot nicer as well. |

My wife and I had occasion to go to Ilkley shopping yesterday [deep joy!]. At least the gas works going into Ilkley had been suspended for the bank holiday and all traffic lights and cones removed. The traffic lights on Cringles were still there and could easily have been removed for the holidays and the cones and machinery moved to leave a clear road. Is this too much to ask? Some people just do not think! |

Looks like this part of the wall is finished. i understand the wall at the other side of the road is also going to be rebuilt. can the £1.3 million cost be justified?
