I went into Town on Saturday morning, I was saddened so see that the Parish Church was flying the union flag upside down, as this is either a sign that the person who put it up is in distress or they are deliberately insulting the queen, I assume they must be having some problem! What do other residents think of this? |

I noticed it too. Now I have known the right way for the Union flag to be flown since I was a Tenderfoot in the Boy Scouts - over 50 years ago now.
By the way it is we're not where, and it is usual to start a sentence with a capital letter. Obviously punch drunk from riding a boxer! |

You are right Old Miner, she never was any good at English, and she now admits; I wasn’t asked to get any carrots! |

From the BBC on this day in history:
quote 1606: The combined English-Scottish 'Union Jack' is created by royal decree, originally for use at sea only.
And Silsden flew it upside down to celebrate |

Yes it is called the Union Jack! But only when it is being flown on a flag pole of a Royal Navy ship, this is because the flag pole of a Royal Navy ship is call a “Jack Staff”. Therefore the flag is call a Union Jack. |

Ah - your old age is showing. Fairly recently , the name "Union Jack" became official when it was approved in Parliament in 1908. It was stated that "the Union Jack should be regarded as the National flag".
If you will still insist that the Union Flag is only known as the Union Jack, it should only be called that when flown from the jack staff when in harbour. At other times, the Ensign is flown from the main mast.

I don't get down into town as often these days so I might be a bit late with this one, the flag is now the right way up! |
