A recent paragraph in the Craven Herald caught my eye: -
quote Skipton, with a population of 14,290, has a total of 61 officers based at its police station on Otley Street, which includes one chief inspector and 30 uniformed officers.
Silsden, with a population just over 8,000, has how many? It certainly ain't 30! We can count ours on ONE hand and we share them with Steeton etc! What's the difference? Skipton is North Yorkshire and Silsden is West Yorkshire. Just what does the money get spent on by West Yorkshire polce? |

But where are they? They ain't patrolling the streets of Silsden. Why don't they tell us where exactly they are? |

alan; they don't tell you where they are because then all the bad guys would also know. walterppk; if they catch speeding motorists then they are catching criminals, in fact ones who contribute to the 3,500 deaths on our roads every year. i'll bet you have not lost somone killed on the road! or had to got and tell a greeving mother her teenage child is laying on a slab in the mortuary. Grow up both of you, and live in the real world. |

Grandad - that's an old excuse, and you know that's not what I meant!
Why aren't they policing the streets of Silsden?
Where in West Yorkshire are they policing?
Why when you talk officially to any policeman above the rank of constable do they come out with the party line about targeting etc, and when you speak off the record in private they agree that more bobbies on the beat are needed?
Why is a school in Silsden now having to spend money that could be spent on childrens education on security measures to prevent vandalism?
What does Silsden get for the £300k it's residents pay to the police each year? |

Well Grandad lock me up and throw away the key ... you may be interested in this definition of a criminal
Definitions of Criminal offence
A crime in a broad sense is an act that violates a political or moral law. In the narrow sense, a crime is a violation of the criminal law. For example, most traffic violations or breach of contracts are not crimes in a legal sense.
How many of the 3,500 deaths were caused by speeding?
It is about time we saw a policeman or two in Silsden talking to the people finding out what is going on. Asbos and the like are measures taken too late, it shouldn't get to that in the first place. |

The courts cannot convict anyone unless they have broken the law, so if as you say these are not offences then why do they get punished. Perhaps you would like all "good" citizens to carry guns, them the police would not be needed, as you could look after your own area? Like they do in Moss Side, Manchester. |
