this post has been edited 2 time(s) Whats special about Silsden that some think the infrastructure can cope here but not in Steeton,Eastburn and Cowling. GROUND works will begin soon on a controversial new housing estate in Eastburn. Miller Homes this week announced the start of work on its Airedale Lea development off Main Road. The award-winning housebuilder will provide almost 150 three and four-bedroom homes and fields next to Airedale Hospital.Craven ward councillor Andrew Mallinson has expressed concern about the development’s potential impact on local traffic networks. A PLAN for three new detached homes on pasture land in Cowling has been given the go-ahead by Craven District Council. Speaking on behalf of Cowling Parish Council, clerk Andrew Mallinson had urged councillors to reject the scheme More than 100 residents have objected to a proposed housing development on vacant farmland in Steeton. Councillor Andrew Mallinson (Con, Craven) said Redrow had sought to address concerns raised by residents over the scheme put forward by Skipton Properties, but two fundamental questions remained unanswered. “These are the ability to sustain the potential addition of 300 to 400 cars when the site only has one access route on to the main road,” he said. “It has been proven in traffic surveys that the Steeton traffic light junction is already running way beyond capacity. Share article “The second is the sewage problem, where there’s still effluent being allowed to flow out on the fields in the surrounding area because the main sewage pipe can’t handle the amount of waste, so any addition to this will exacerbate the problem.” Plans for a controversial Steeton housing development were approved following a two-hour debate. Bradford district councillors accepted the application to build 220 houses on fields to the east of Thornhill Road.Coun Andrew Mallinson said lack of local capacity was the crucial issue. He said Yorkshire Water had admitted the sewerage system was under strain and warned nearby schools would struggle to find extra places for dozens more pupils. PLANS for 48 new houses on a site next to the Leeds-Liverpool canal in Silsden have been approved by Bradford Council, despite concerns from neighbouring residents. The application was supported by Councillor Andrew Mallinson (Cons, Craven), |

It is academic whether or not the infrastructure can cope. The government is panicking as it can see a housing crisis coming and wants to be seen as doing something. |

It is a well documented fact that there area more empty properties than people who need a home, the government should make then habitable before any new ones are allowed to be built. |
