This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Will it be as comprehensive as the Grassington Hub.
Which is very welcoming and functions well, opening at convenient times for Grassinton people.

I think Bradford Council have more this size in mind

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-16364652

Might be even smaller now because their lack of maintainence of the building allowed the floorboards to rot. Even doing a survey for the works failed to spot something thats added a month(33%) to the time taken for the works.

When and IF the library opens in the Town Hall, it will be useless! No assistant to provide information, no personal touch to ordering copies from the Central Library and more to the point no access to specific Reference archives, all of which have been on offer for decades in the current facility. The end result? Another loss to future residents and generations of Silsden! Well done BMDC!

Why do you think there will be no staff or access to the archives at the new library?

The plan is (or was last I saw) to have it self service, open when the Town Hall is hired out. On the reference issue, that is the conclusion I'm drawn towards. In the current library there is a full section, purely on plans, listed buildings, books purely on Silsden an its history, right through to data on statutory designations including the "Conservation Area".

I would be MORE than surprised if all that material was Ito be included in the "plan".

Just for the record, I have always thought the current library was too small for purpose. To reduce it in size and space, when we have an ever increasing populace defies all belief!

The library will be staffed for 13 hrs per week.

The library staff have agreed to take bookings for the hire of rooms in the town hall.

Although there will be a limited reference section for dictionaries etc., all the currect local history documents will still be available.

Thank you Peter for that information. Any ideas on when they are planning to open it? 13 hours per week, if they open it 5 days a week, would only be 2.6 hours a day. If they are strictly limited to 13 hours per week, that, to me, would limit it to 2 days per week, based on one part time member of staff.

My previous point still stands, that Silsden is expanding year on year. We are NOT getting the services we pay for in our taxes, instead we are seeing our assets and resources, such as the library either cut or reduced to the point where they are a waste of time and effort.

Sorry, I think at a meeting I misheard - the library is currently open for 30.5 hrs per week and the this will not change when the library opens in the town Hall.
