Storm Drain at bottom of Mitchell Lane is still blocked, last night it was overflowing & rainwater was running off down St.John's Street. Bradford Council wagon turned up around midnight, the guys prodded about for awhile, achieved nothing, then beggared off. The saga continues. Hate to state the obvious, but it seems clear to me that this drain's run-off pipe to the beck is probably in a collapsed & or blocked state. Over a number of years this problem has been reported to Bradmet but still nowt gets done. |

Bradford will never admit the drain is blocked because that would be an admission the blocked drain caused the road to collapse. |

As an aside to this issue please let me describe a similar issue that occurred some 2/3 years ago. My next door neighbour & ourselves were woken in the middle of the night by a loud noise to the rear of our properties. It transpired that the retaining wall to the rear of next door's yard had partially collapsed into the beck. Many months later it was discovered, by Bradford Council, that a pipeline from a roadside gully discharged into the beck under that property. This pipeline had,in a number of places, collapsed & had, over a number of years, leaked into the ground rather than being discharged into the beck. Winter's had come, then Summer thaws & consequently the ground had expanded with the result the retaining walls had been pushed out & consequently the retaining wall had partially collapsed. Since then sink holes have been discovered on this site. One could argue that a similar event occurred when the huge sinkhole appeared to the South of Mitchell Lane. |
