Peter, will we have to use a new user name & password? You will have to sign up to use the new forum with a user name and a "real" email address. You will be emailed (automatically) to confirm it's you and then you will be able to use the new forum.
If you want to change your user name when you sign up to the new forum, that's up to you
Some of the passwords used on this forum are have not very secure and it would be good if they were a little more difficult to guess!
I recommend using a phrase e.g. It would be nice,, to go on holiday in 2020 - maybe not as long and NOT that phrase, but you get the idea.
If you forget your password you will be able to change it (automatically) as long as the email address you provided is correct.
All good stuff.

Will we lose what is an archive Unfortunately, yes
The SILSDEN.NET website and forum has been running since 2002, but the Win 2003 Server it has been running on has reached its sale by date. In fact, it was way past its sale by date because support for the server ended in 2015.
This forum uses an access database and ASP code which is not supported on current servers, so the decision was made to update the website with a new system. It was not possible to convert the old forum database although it has been saved… I may be able to provide it as an archive at some point in the future but please don’t hold your breath.
