Saturday at 5.30pm it took us about 15 minutes to get out of Silsden. We queued from Dale View to the canal bridge traffic lights BUT when we got through the lights there were only a few cars waiting to get through from the Steeton side. The traffic lights seem to be set in favour of the traffic coming from the roundabout.

For Silsdeneners wanting to go in the Keighley direction there is little choice but to join the queue and wait and wait and wait and the memorial garden flowers ARE very nice but I would rather appreciate them when I am going to the library.

Methinks a bit more cusomer care is required from UU.

Peter This congestion is likely to go on for quite a while as it appears that UU are not paying overtime so the job will not be completed quickly. They have now put double yellow lines down the main street which helps the congestion slightly but doesn't do anything to help local business. The lines are meant to be temporary, however it is worth anyone who is concerned about the time this work is taking to get in touch with David Greenwood at Bradford Council on 01274 432046 and voice their concerns. This should hopefully put pressure on UU to get on with the job. Heaven help us with the traffic when the schools go back!

I'm not complaining about the workmen, I understand that sometimes things happen which cannot be seen.

What I am complaining about is the lack of traffic management which is VERY visable.sad :(sad :(sad :(angry

They have to give priority to the Steeton side so that the bypass can still flow with no problems.

But they can only see as far as the garage and they definitely can't see the traffic on Bolton Road.

They haven't got a clue!

A little more customer care and perhaps we wouldn't have reports of cars driving through the park.

I agree Peter, but if Bradford had managed the situation a little better we'd not be in this position now.

Starnge how they managed it a lot better in Ilkley isn't it?

I don't care what happened in Ilkley.

I just want to be able to get out of Silsden in a reasonable time and to be able to see SOME traffic management. Not traffic lights set to automatic and biased (out of hours) towards traffic coming into Silsden.angry

... and while I remember there was absolute chaos caused by the car boot sale last Sunday. There were cars parked on the Aire Bridge and upto and beyond the entrance to the field. Parking around the entrance made it very dangerous and many of the cars were parked on the pavement. If you want to comment on the car boot parking please start a new topic. This is just my two pennyworth moan, it has nothing to do with the subject of UU traffic management.

Noticed the timing ysterday. It is very biased towards traffic from Steeton way, about 4 to 1 judging by the quantity of cars going through, and half of them from the Silsden end had to jump the red light!

Yes I was wondering about that too, I am getting well fed up with the problems getting from my house on Howden road to Skipton and back every day. The back way round Brunthwaite has become downright dangerous with all the idiots racing through trying to by-pass the queue in from Addingham end.
Lets have some lights and make sure the timing is biased to giving Howden road the main priority for a change.

As a postscript to that article, it should be noted that I arranged a meeting between UU and the shop owners on the 13th ( a week after the TC meeting).

Unfortunately, personally, I could not go because I had a scan in Leeds followed by some lengthy treatment.

Hopefully it was a productive meeting as it was clearly stated to UU that the TC fully endorse the shopkeepers concerns!

I don't understand why they couldn't do the roadworks at night. Surely this would've made things a lot easier? And why do they have to do it all at once? It's like that famous TV show, 'The Prisoner'..just when you think the traffic is about to move and you're going to make an escape, along comes a 'hard hat (read 'giant balloon' ) with a 'No entry' sign to scotch your escape! AHHHHHHHGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am not a number!

I just measuerd the timings of the lights on Howden Road
You get 2½ minutes of red light and 15 seconds of green.
On average about five or six cars were getting through on each cycle.
It will be interesting to see how that affects traffic flow in the rush hour tomorrow.

you are number 6

went out at lunchtime the lights were screwy
traffic coming into silsden was very backed up
the lights let about 4 cars through then changed

about halfway through a very long stint from the coming out of silsden route they were doing another cycle through the lights without stopping on green

The man to ask is David Greenwood of Bradford Highways, if you e-mail me at alan@silsden.net I will pass his e-mail address on.

Have just come down Bolton Road. From the speed indicator to Bridge Street took 20 mins. Stop, start, moved 2-3 car lengths, then stop again. Poor people going into work, it must have been horrendous for them.

Why is everyone using Aireview as a shortcut? Its a residential street not a bypass. I can't even get out of my parking slot today and there are 20+ immobile cars backed up the street. I've had to arrange to go into work an hour late (again)and work late. When are they going to make Aireview "Access Only"

Sorry snowball but I also thought I would try the Aire View route this morning having seen the queue down Skipton Road.I was taking my car to a Garage in Howden Road and not being blessed with much patience, having seen the queue in Aire View I drove up to Kildwick and came back to Silsden via Steeton.
There was no queue AT ALL from the Steeton side. The lights did not appear to be working.

Traffic was an absolute nightmare this morning. It took me 50 minutes to get from Bell Square to Steeton and Silsden train station at just after 7 this morning.angry
I missed not one but two of the trains I normally catch. The lights seemed to be stuck on red for traffic coming through Silsden and even though there were people working on the bridge, no-one bothered to check the lights even though it was clear that there was a problem

who is managing all the traffic flow? is it contracted out to another firm, and only they can deal with onsite issues, not workers on the site? it seems UU need to explain what is going on....it is alright having a plan, but each day brings problems, and they need to be quick to deal with them. We are only 2/3 weeks away from schools going back, and I shudder to think what will happen then!
