I hope not, it is very anti social to burn rubbish, don't you think about how this affects other people, I am sick of people burning rubbish, sometimes the valley is full of smoke from the inconsiderate people, the golf club does it, some idiots over steeton way are always at, the cricket club or allotments not sure which and the allotments down sykes lane,Please do not do it Rant over |

Hey Ginjo just what are you on about ,the stuff im burning is diseased plants that the book says you must burn not send to the tip in green bags if you have a problem with my old oil barrel fire then come down to my allotment and watch it burn if you still have a problem then go down Sykes lane at weekends (when the envirolment office is closed) and look at all the sh**e that is burned there, that's my rant over |

I will decline your offer thanks.Your first post said you had rubbish to burn! I am still not sure about burning leaves, I think a lot of the smoke in silsden comes from burning garden rubbish and it smoulders for hours, I know sykes lane is an issue.what sort of plants are you talking about? |

Go for it Bob T, but please be aware of your responsibilities to your neighbours
Let your neighbours know when you’re going to light it and where it is. Avoid lighting in unsuitable weather conditions. Smoke hangs in the air on damp, still days and in the evening. Avoid burning when the wind will carry the smoke over roads or into other people’s property. Check the air quality and avoid burning when it is "poor" or "very poor". Only burn dry material Never burn household rubbish, rubber or anything containing plastic, foam or paint. Never use old engine oil, mentholated spirits or petrol to light the fire or to encourage it. Avoid burning at weekends and on bank holidays when people are more likely to be in their garden. Never leave the fire unattended or leave it to smoulder – douse it with water if necessary. Remember to check for hibernating hedgehogs and sleeping pets!
What are the penalties? Under the Highways (Amendment) Act 1986 anyone lighting a fire and allowing smoke to drift across the road faces a fine of up to £2000 if it endangers traffic. There may be local bye-laws which restrict the times which bonfires are allowed, |

I would think that Bob being an ex fireman would be fully aware of the safety issues regarding the above. |

Now then Bob T, with your obvious specialist knowledge, can you reassure fellow allotment holders & neighbours that the diseased plant problem is under control, BTW what is it & do we need to contact the appropriate authorities. we look forward to your reply. |

I think we better hold off with our offer of the 45 gallon oil drum at the moment Bob T after reading some of the posts as we would not like to think it was going to be used in any illegal activity or causing any danger or be a nuisance to anyone. |

Now look Bob T it's no good ignoring this disease problem,i think you need help to identify the infection because In the last two weeks many home gardeners have lost their late season tomato crop to Late Blight, caused by the fungus Phytophthora infestans, a disease affecting both tomatoes and potatoes. It's the most devastating disease of tomatoes and potatoes worldwide, killing plants very quickly and spreading rapidly, and was responsible for the Irish potato famine of the 1840's. so i plead with you to get this disease identified, then we can all rest a little more comfotable. Thank you. |

Oops, sorry Hillbilly, just seeing the funny side of things. Perhaps with all the oil drums that aren't being used they could form a steel band, now that would cause some comments!!! |
