This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Is there any way we can pick Silsden up and move it to a nicer location? Am I the only one to be ashamed and embarrassed to be so close in proximity to that 'hole'....also known as Keighley. It pains me that we have to put 'it' on our address, surely we have the right to be just Silsden and not 'near Keighley'. It feels like your in another world when your walking through Keighley town centre, it is definetly one of Britains 'worst' towns (read the book 'Crap Towns' for proof)and we live right next to it.....depressing....

No you don't have to put Keighley on your address,
All you need is your house number and the post code that will find you. It will help the post office if you put Silsden though.

I recall thinking that keighley was a dump when i was an innocent kid that didn't know any better. Now i regard Keighley as i regard anywhere in Yorkshire - a great place full of great people. And i feel a lot happier with myself for thinking that way.

Shame on you alan! you should be supporting the shops in silsden not taking your money out of town, down to keighley.
there are some very good bargans to be had in our fair town.
unless you want the town centre to die that is

I do support the town "grandad"! Probably more than most do.

Perhaps you'd let me in to the secret where I buy Christmas presents from in the town?

Maybe I should buy all the relatives a takeaway!

try pauls diy, nadeen's, help the aged, any of the many butchers could supply a very nice bird for christmas, and if you are realy deparate you could even try the co-op.

As one the worst of "offcumdens" in Silsden, a Lancastrian, I have to say that that isn't my experience.

Best of Yorkshire folk here!!!

Silsden has a lot going for it. Compared with over the border in North Yorkshire many of the services are excellent.

As for Keighley. Keighley is accelerating up market. In London it was called gentrification. yesterdays slum, todays hot spot. Keighley is going that way. Notice the type of shops down Cavendish Street. Observe the business M&S food does.

All I can say is I wish I had bought up a few streets in Keighley a few years ago.

Why? Electric Railway, proximity to Leeds and the Dales. Keighley cannot lose. Watch this space.

From a girl who now lives in Silsden though and has had the unlucky experience of living in Keighley, I can say Keighley is a shithole and "grandad" i do support Silsden by shopping at Nadeen's etc... but it would be a pretty poor xmas if all the presents were bought from the localities in the village!!!
