Roll up, Roll up! don't miss out on the next production from Silsden Community Productions. 'Right Up Our Street', is written by Cathy Liddle who has based this Silsden 'story' on real historical events and fascinating local characters. Tickets are on sale today from Twiggs newsagents, (Adults £6, Under 16's £3) for the production which opens on Wednesday 24th February to Saturday 27th February at Silsden AFC/Cricket Pavillion, Keighley Road, Silsden. All tickets for the play have now been sold. No more available. |
|
| Peter |
As the venue has has limited capacity any chance of putting the play on for a few more nights? ![]() ![]() ![]() Please ![]() ![]() |

I think it is on for 4 nights. Got my tickets for the Friday night. I have been told that the venue are charging quite a high price for the use of the room. To put on more performances Peter may be very expensive. |
|
| Peter |
Me being not very organised when it comes to buying tickets - I haven't got one I should have known tickets would sell out quickly because it is a popular subject for a play and the room it will be held in is disappointingly small.I visited the new Football/Cricket facilities at Christmas to give an armful to the blood suckers - the car park was small but probably sufficient for the size of the facilities room which I thought was small. Did I miss something? Note I have changed this from an announcement topic so feel free to comment. BTW you should check out the new calendar facility for events in Silsden. www.silsden.net/silsden_events/calendar.asp |

I gather that there are seats for 100 people at each evening performance at the sports club. Tickets sold out very quickly: shows the need for Silsden to have a proper community centre with stage? |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) The great amount of effort that has had to be put in by all involved in the play is exausting, and I dont believe the cast will have the energy to perform for an extra night.Dont forget most have jobs as well. |

could somebody film advd all profits to the ompany concerned .just a thought. |

You are spot on about the venue Peter but where else in Silsden could a play be performed? Last year I went to watch 'Christmas Carol' which was at the old Methodist Chapel. My mate is in this play so I will be there to support him. So 400 tickets were sold in a very short time? |

what about the town hall??? |
|
| JeanD |
I understand that there are no changing rooms just a stage and the other problem is not suitable for disabled Think after the show we should make waves for a Community Centre for all Silsdeners to use |
|
| skippy |
jeanD theres more than one room in the town hall. also why do we always have to (play the disabled card) only a very small amount of people can not use stairs without help, surely there is enough people willing to help some one who cannot get to the ballroom in the town hall, positive thoughts not negative,(always works) use the townhall before its sold off |
|
| alan |
I agree with skippy, and there's plenty of refurbished rooms downstairs that could be used as temporary changing rooms! |
|
| Cobbydale Man |
Skippy, you have to consider other people who are unable to climb stairs. It's not 'playing a card' it's consideration. Alan, can actors move from the rooms downstairs to the stage area without being seen by the audience? |
|
| alan |
Have a look at the Town Hall Cobby, it's easy to find it's on Kirkgate |
|
| skippy |
cobydale man , read wot skippy put,HELP IS NEEDED UP STAIRS, dont put a downer on EVERYTHING |
|
| Peter |
I seem to remember there are steps going into the Town Hall and the stage is up a long flight of stairs. Have you ever tried getting someone in a wheelchair into the town hall? What are STC (or Bradford) doing about disabled access? Are there ANY provisions for disabled access? The reason the blood suckers were forced to use the the new football/cricket pavilion was because it was the only suitable venue in Silsden with disabled access. |
|
| Cobbydale Man |
Thanks Skippy, I did read what you posted. No need to shout!!! ( ie.capital letters ). Thanks Alan, I have been downstairs in the Town Hall for a coffee. I have not been upstairs and that's why I asked you the question. What is the answer please? |
|
| skippy |
because its council owned(bfd not silsden) it dont need to be disabled freindly if you or i owned it we WOULD be made by european law be made to comply with their laws, utter disgrace but whilst we have a spineless government i am affraid we have to put up with it![]() ![]() |

Like I said go and look Cobby, you're the production expert! I'm sure the caretaker will show you if you manage to speak to him nicely! |
|
| Cobbydale Man |
Thanks Allen, If I get chance I will call in and have a look myself. Strange that you can't just tell me. I can only assume that you don't know. |

quoteThanks Allen, If I get chance I will call in and have a look myself. Strange that you can't just tell me. I can only assume that you don't know. I know what the town hall is like! But I don't know what a production requires, why do you have to turn a simple suggestion in to an argument? |

It seems that all possible Silsden venues were visited before the company chose the sports club as the most suitable for their new play. Town Hall would have been number one choice, because of central location, but access to upstairs is an important issue,on safety grounds alone. Performances require use of some serious stage lighting: fire safety just has to be top consideration, for able-bodied and disabled alike. Another drawback to the Town Hall, as far as theatricals is concerned, is the lack of 'stage wings' from which actors can appear. The Town Hall is a good local facility and should be supported whenever practical, but it could do with some internal changes to make it more realistic for community use. And the community seems ready to campaign for this! |

Silsden Town Hall was built as an office block from which to run the town of Silsden. Unfortunately it was built in the days when everyone walked so has poor vehicular access. As for the EU access myth. While older buildings should be made to be accessible it is recognised by legislators that this is not always possible without modifications that might actually make the building unusable. Biggest problem with these, and health and safety rules, are the jobsworths who cannot read, so are unable to interpret them in a sensible manner. |

| Cobbydale Man |
With regard to your post above Allen, what part of my previous post is an argument? I simply asked you a question and you could not answer me, so whats the problem? Please try not to be so combative. |

Peter just who are the blood suckers,as all profits are going to charity. |

quotePeter just who are the blood suckers,as all profits are going to charity. blood suckers = National Blood Transfusion Service ![]() They used to use the Methodist Hall, which was disabled access friendly. That location is a little cold and has a lot of fresh air at the moment. ![]() |

On behalf of Silsden sports club, thanks to Silsden community production group for supporting the new local community sports club. In its first year of opening they need as much support from local people to advertise these magnificent facilities. Too small? possibly, but where else in Silsden would you get first clas comfort and surruondings. S |
|
| The Stig |
I think that its wonderful that these superb facilities are being utilised for use by the Silsden Community. Unfortunatly in this current economic climate everything comes at a cost. Glad to hear that the sports club is being used & not a white elephant as some would preach!! |
