This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

While the potential for disaster in this is worrying, it also shows that industry and free trade are alive and kicking.

It is an unfortunate fact of life that to maintain the standard of living we enjoy requires decisions that on the face of it seem to scare rather than help. While the UK may not be perfect the record with the necessary chemicals of modern life has generally been good. No Bhopal here recently but see the historical comment in the next paragraph.

Much of this essential health and safety is down to the trade unions. For those still wanting to knock trade unions then read up on the match girls strike over phossy jaw. Fortunately most employers in the UK will want to do the right thing and union bashing on health and safety grounds is really a dead duck.

It is good to see manufacturing on the up. What goes around comes around. Nothing is forever.
