Yes, bet they were wearing bright yellow jackets and stood very near a sign telling drivers they were there. Oh and I bet they didn't catch anyone speeding...suprise suprise!!! Waste of flipping time till they are allowed to do it without advertising the fact |

No doubt the 'other bloke' was a member of the public who got off his bum and did something! |

well said Alan! they have to wear the high viz jackets to comply with the health and safety requirements. Speedwatch is a two edged sword, yes it is about catching the speeders but it is also about slowing them down and at the same time letting the locals know the police are taking their complaints on board, anybody who wants to help the PCSO's are welcome to do so. It is amazing to see the effect it has on the complainers when they get behind a speedgun and actualy see just what speed the vehicles are doing. |

It always amuses me 'grandad' when people comment on the police wearing hi-viz jackets.
If they were stood there without there would be just as many moans that they were hiding!
The point is catch 'em or not it's a deterrent, more power to Speedwatch! |

I agree with what your saying 'Grandad' (which suprises me more than bobber agreeing with me .) But you're also wrong too. Yes health and safety.blah blah it's rubbish, you only have to be driving down the keighley bypass with a police car in front of you, everyone slows down and even though they may be driving under the speed limit nobody wants to over take them. This is the case when speed watchers are about, see a sign slow down! We'll never get anything done about the speeders in Silsden if these are the results they're getting ( see last weeks keighley news). Yes it's good that they are slowing down for you so yes it's helping in the short term, but you can't stand out all day everyday can you? I think the police could be spending their money on better things rather than paying you for standing in the rain, knowing you're not going to get a true reading of the speed people are driving. |

The point is they are a DETERRENT!
Wonder what what you'd say about the police if a child was killed by a speeder on Ings Way? |

"If they were stood there without there would be just as many moans that they were hiding!" Your comment is very true Alan. I was out with the Police last night,I got got accused off sneaking up on the lads we took the booze off because I wasn't wearing a HVJ. Speeding- Police are doing something Ryefield- Police are doing something Underage drinking-Police are doing somthing.

They are only a deterrent while they are there 'Alan' they've done it umpteen times on Skipton Road it deters them for the time they are there NOT when they've gone. Thats my point Alan, yes they are doing a good job while they are there,BUT the point of them being thare is to get an accurate account of the speed people drive. This is NOT the case when PCSO's are stood there with high vis on. I'm not knocking what grandad and friends do i'm just saying it isn't a permanent deterrent and not accurate. If people aren't speeding they wouldn't be bothered about them stood there without jackets would they? We want permanent deterrants on the roads in our town, not temporary ones. Whats wrong with that? |
