41 is young.
There is a huge amount of fun and satisfaction from going back to education.
New ideas, new people, new doors to open.
Uni and college are very different now.
There were courses which offer bursaries while studying. Don't know if this is still the case.
I would if I was 41.
You are doing the right thing by asking around on here - ask as many different people as you can.
all the very best.

I can answer the paramedic side of it - it's a 2 year full time diploma or 3 year degree these days (unless you are very lucky and happen to see ymas recruiting direct entry, which they don't do often), the nearest courses are either Preston or Sheffield. They no longer carry a bursary but the fees are paid. 41 isn't too old but you need to be under 100kg and relatively fit ( a joke really - they say the 100kg is because the ambulance seats aren't rated above that - I see loads of paramedics who are over 100kg and/or who are not fit!!). Pay is ok once qualified - check but I think it'll be £24000 plus enhancements for out of hours, good holiday and pensions. Will rise to about £30000 after 5 or 6 years.. Hope that helps

Hiya,

Lots of opportunities to retrain are availabel for mature students ...if you try ringing the Job centre and ask which provider gives careers advice ... i think its ASPIRE (or something like that)....

You do need to research which colleges etc provide what courses and now is the time to gather this info .... you also need to decide which area your looking at ...

If it is paramedic or sports and leisure ... do you volunteer anywhere ? i.e first responder (i think thats what its called) ... or helping out in a sports capacity somewhere ... its definately good to start volunteering in some way or another to get a feel.

Bursariers and student loans are available ... student loans ore only payable back in very small lumps once you are earning... so you might get a large student loan debt but that shouldnt frighten you off....the debt does get written off after a long period of time.

your never too old to make a difference and a chang, and 41 is defo not too old... research, clarity and belief ...

Good luck !
