We live close by where the accident occurred and apparently the pick-up was travelling up Bolton road when it hit a parked van. The impact spun the pick-up round to face the wall and the driver sustained shoulder injuries. Two cars following stopped at the scene and one of them took the driver to hospital. The damage to the pick-up was so severe on the passenger side that if there had been a passenger in,it would have been a cutting-out job. How this driver didn't see the parked van I do not know. Perhaps he was on his mobile phone like a lot of drivers do nowadays. The speed that vehicles come up & down Bolton road is incredible and one day they will be an almighty accident at the junction with Pickard Lane as any vehicle that comes out of there, the driver's view is restricted by parked vehicles.

As the pick-up was owned by Ripon Farm Supplies it wasn't long before a tractor and trailer came when they took the pickup away.

The accident happened at 2pm and it was 3.30pm before the police arrived.

As for the driver of the pick-up I always thought it was against the law to leave the scene of an accident and why they took it upon themselves to remove the vehicle I don't know. The policeman didn't seem overly concerned, he just briefly looked at the skid marks on the road then 15mins later a low loader arrived to take away the damaged parked van whose owner, incidently, was on holiday.
