This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

So now it is official....

A survey of commuters who use Steeton and Silsden railway station car park has shown that passengers travel from as far away as Preston to use the station.

The results backed up the working group’s theory that people travelled from far and wide to use the station to commute to Leeds and take advantage of cheaper rail fares.

Definitely Alan, there were people from Brierfield, Burnley as well as Colne, travelling on Tuesday morning, the numbers originating from that direction will be sent to the group trying to reopen the line in the hope it helps them.
Sadly though there were also people who drove from Steeton and one couple from Silsden who used two cars.
Pity there weren't any Silsden Town Councillors there helping with the survey!

I Remember catching the train from Burnley to Skipton. is it possible to re open the line ? any houses built on the old track bed are all the bridges still up? If so it could be reopend. To take us all to watch the premier League games at Burnley.

This would not solve the problem being the reason people drive to Silsden / Steeton station is to take advantage of the cheap fares.

The West Yorks Rail card extension as far a Skipton has been introduced for an experimental period since May this year. But they used to charge £5 to park your car in Skipton rail station, so it would still be cheaper to drive to Silsden where they can park FREE. Has this changed. The only way I can see to change the situation is to make it a pay and display at Silsden Station. This would then remove the advantage and then they might catch the train nearer to where they live, and make a bit of space for those who travel a bit later in the day and can't park at present.
