I asked a similar question a few weeks ago. I don't understand why fuel prices are more expensive in Silsden than Keighley, for instance.

Does it cost more to deliver here? I think not!

morrison's keighley gives best value, used them for years. local one is handy for a few pounds worth only if you are stuck. yet.....they get loads of business. By the way, local Hainsworth Garage at the mill is great for car service/MOT etc, and costwise they always give value.

as I understand it, shell station in keighley is cheaper than one in silsden but owned by same person? Do they think we have more money in silsden? we even saw diesel a lot cheaper on the motorway than it is here !

if that's the case ginjo then why are'nt there regulations? are they allowed to charge what they want? or is it because they know they are catching the ilkley traffic?

They are obviously not operating a cartel and fixing the price. Your vehicle has wheels and you have the choice to go somewhere else. Gone are the days when I show any loyalty to one petrol station.

The value of any item is that which a willing seller accepts from a willing buyer. Auctions are the best example of this process in action. For commodities, such as fuel you have the choice of going elsewhere.
However, it is important to do ones sums. Is it actually worth travelling from Sislden to Keighley to fill up with fuel? If you are going that way, then fair enough. But if you do not need to go into Keighley, then is it really worth it?
Anyhow, enjoy it while you can afford it. Once the Chinese all decide they want a car instead of a bicycle they will get all the petrol. Plenty of money saved up there from all the stuff we have bought from them

Relatively speaking petrol is still too cheap. In the 1960s it was about 25p a gallon and on average cars did around 30 mpg. As I was getting 15p an hour to sell the stuff it rather puts it into perspective.

The average car cost 40p a mile to run. So a 8 mile run to save about 50p costs £3.20 so net loss is actually £2.70!!!

I could make some comment about maths education, but will leave that for nowhappy :)

PS I get my electricity and gas from British Gas. Signed up to the fixed price deal. Now when I get other trying to flog me their fuels they always give up when I say I am on that tariff.

Who drives to Keighley just to buy petrol?

Some of us actually go out of the town and buy it as we pass other garages!

Besides they don't even open while 7.00am and usually have a tanker in then anyway!

sad :(
Oil is a finite resource.
At the moment we are in the 'fools paradise' situation. Prices have not yet risen excessively, but they will.
When the s**t hits the fan then they will rise.
Why have all the car makers been sold to foreign companies, but we still have the factories?
When the fuel doomsday arrives they go bust, we have the factories and the technology to mass produce electric powered public transport alternatives.
Just check out what Frazer Nash, www.frazer-nash.com/
are into these days.
wink ;)
OK, I do not know, just playing Devil's advocate, but...............

Vehicles cost around 40p a mile to run. So long as the trip from Silsden to Keighley costs less than the fuel saving then it is worth your while.
