IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. I asked a similar question a few weeks ago. I don't understand why fuel prices are more expensive in Silsden than Keighley, for instance. Does it cost more to deliver here? I think not! |
![]() |
alliecoward |
well i'm all for keeping it local alan, but definately not this time....they suck!!!!!!! |
![]() |
pumbajunior |
yup i dont go there anymore its 4p dearer a litre than total at keighley the other week taking fraggles loan car back put £5 in n it didnt register any extra miles on one of those new fangled miles to fill up displays went back n said is pump working as not registered anything girl said in smarmy voice you did only put £5 in you know yes i realise that as i have £5 less in my pocket now but i still would expect some change in the display ![]() |

So am I 'alliecoward' but not in this case. Wouldn't be so bad if the service was top notch to go with it! |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) no, as ratings go they get a BIG thumbs down in all areas.where do others tend to find the best for service and price? their slogan should be spend more get less! |
![]() |
pumbajunior |
morrisons keighley is pretty good plus you get £5 back eventually to spend in store if you have the free petrol points card |

gazzer |
I use this www.petrolprices.com |

excellent site gazzer,thankyou. |

morrison's keighley gives best value, used them for years. local one is handy for a few pounds worth only if you are stuck. yet.....they get loads of business. By the way, local Hainsworth Garage at the mill is great for car service/MOT etc, and costwise they always give value. |

quoteyup been using it for about 2 years now get emails from them every week with the 5 cheapest in the area is it a coincidence that silsden shell is 200 yards away from my front door but as never featured in the top five cheapest ![]() |
![]() |
ginjo |
as I understand it, shell station in keighley is cheaper than one in silsden but owned by same person? Do they think we have more money in silsden? we even saw diesel a lot cheaper on the motorway than it is here ! |
![]() |
alliecoward |
this post has been edited 1 time(s) if that's the case ginjo then why are'nt there regulations? are they allowed to charge what they want? or is it because they know they are catching the ilkley traffic? |
![]() |
Fred |
They are obviously not operating a cartel and fixing the price. Your vehicle has wheels and you have the choice to go somewhere else. Gone are the days when I show any loyalty to one petrol station. |

pumbajunior |
yup i usually check the website or if i see cheap petrol on my travels fill up there recently tesco at bradford great horton road type area was £1.09 unleaded (i guess it will have gone up a little since all did last week) |

I suspect 'ginjo' has hit the nail on the head with his comment! |

The value of any item is that which a willing seller accepts from a willing buyer. Auctions are the best example of this process in action. For commodities, such as fuel you have the choice of going elsewhere. However, it is important to do ones sums. Is it actually worth travelling from Sislden to Keighley to fill up with fuel? If you are going that way, then fair enough. But if you do not need to go into Keighley, then is it really worth it? Anyhow, enjoy it while you can afford it. Once the Chinese all decide they want a car instead of a bicycle they will get all the petrol. Plenty of money saved up there from all the stuff we have bought from them |
![]() |
alan |
The frightening thing 'wahiba' is that you are precisely right about the Chinese! |
![]() |
alliecoward |
according to the radio today the prediction is petrol should hit £1.50 by the end of summer!!?? |
![]() |
skippy |
is that before the next election allie? |
![]() |
alliecoward |
hmmm...what do you think?? |
![]() |
ma |
well what ever price i will support silsden petrol |
![]() |
Alan Grop |
If you are going to Keighley just to buy petrol then it will cost more than 2 or even 5 pence per litre,So you save nowt. |

allan you have more missed goals than burnley on this one |

Relatively speaking petrol is still too cheap. In the 1960s it was about 25p a gallon and on average cars did around 30 mpg. As I was getting 15p an hour to sell the stuff it rather puts it into perspective. The average car cost 40p a mile to run. So a 8 mile run to save about 50p costs £3.20 so net loss is actually £2.70!!! I could make some comment about maths education, but will leave that for now ![]() |

PS I get my electricity and gas from British Gas. Signed up to the fixed price deal. Now when I get other trying to flog me their fuels they always give up when I say I am on that tariff. |
![]() |
pumbajunior |
i just get the cheaper fuels when passing cheaper garages no money lost then |
![]() |
alan |
Who drives to Keighley just to buy petrol? Some of us actually go out of the town and buy it as we pass other garages! Besides they don't even open while 7.00am and usually have a tanker in then anyway! |
![]() |
primy |
i make sure i am passing the co op garage at crosshills/ farnhill roundabout its cheaper than silsden and i can use my co op share card. the one at silsden is just pricing its self out of the market |
![]() |
Fred |
Interesting! I usually get my Nectar Card swiped, I suppose I can use my Co-op card as well. ![]() ![]() |

I think we should all get rid of our cars and buy a pony, we could go to work on it , mow the lawn and grow super roses, lol I certainly dont use Silsden garage anymore its gone up loads in the last three weeks, when i went in last time i stated i see diesel has gone up again and i just got a grunt from the woman behind the til, made me smile but wont use them anymore. |

![]() Oil is a finite resource. At the moment we are in the 'fools paradise' situation. Prices have not yet risen excessively, but they will. When the s**t hits the fan then they will rise. Why have all the car makers been sold to foreign companies, but we still have the factories? When the fuel doomsday arrives they go bust, we have the factories and the technology to mass produce electric powered public transport alternatives. Just check out what Frazer Nash, www.frazer-nash.com/ are into these days. ![]() OK, I do not know, just playing Devil's advocate, but............... |
![]() |
gazzer |
With diesel now at £127.9 at the Silsden I filled up at Sainsbury's today at only £120.9, a saving of over 31p a gallon |
![]() |
wahiba |
Vehicles cost around 40p a mile to run. So long as the trip from Silsden to Keighley costs less than the fuel saving then it is worth your while. |
