Another case of Bradford absolute stupidity!

One man died so they close it! How many bikers are killed on the roads in this area and Bradford do absolutely bugger all about it!

Let them have their fun at the Flappit!

Bradford Council officially closes Cullingworth site

8:44am Wednesday 17th June 2009

comment Comments (25) Have your say ยป

A layby near a quarry used by off-road bikers officially closed yesterday as Bradford Council workmen moved in to seal off the entrance and exit.

Signs went up a couple of weeks ago at the Flappit layby, near Cullingworth, saying it was closed. But after complaints from Mirielle Duncan, who runs her mobile cafe from the site, the Council agreed to cover over the signs until the official closure date.

Now they have been uncovered and the layby closed off.

The move is intended to prevent off-road bikers using the disused Halls Rough quarry, after a 45-year-old man died there in 2007.

In the days when men were men and ladies were ladies and Scott and Panther made motorbikes in Yorkshire riders would ride their bike to the trials event and then ride home again.
So it looks like if they all want to play at Flappit they will have to go back to the old ways and ride the bike there, play, and ride it back home again.

Peter have you ever walked through Cullingworth on a weekend or up to 11 in the evening?,if you had you might change your point of view. Why should people have to put up with so much noise when they come home from work and just want to sit in there gardens.

yay, way to go Bogtoss, totally miss the point Victor made and post something ridiculous sad :( Victor never mentioned bikes on the road sad :(

I have to admit that I thought it was a bit petty closing the site but then I'd never realized there was a noise nuisance to the local residents.

People do have the right to enjoy their homes in peace without being disturbed. People also like to ride their bikes. Should the people who live nearby have to sacrifice normal everyday life in their homes just so the riders can enjoy their hobby? I doubt it. Could noise deadening measures be put in place? Maybe. Who's going to pay for them? Not me matey! So that means not the council, not the Government, which leaves the riders I suppose.

I'm all for people having the right to enjoy their hobby, up until the point it infringes on someone else going about their normal everyday activities, like sitting in their garden of a weekend enjoying some peace and quiet.

I bet the bikers wouldn't like it if I came and flew a very noisy model aircraft around their houses all weekend long, then the boot would be on the other foot (or foot rest if you like).

Well traffic and emergency services are not just people's hobbies. Shooting is and if it disturbs people then there needs to be some kind of compromise. I don't suppose the shooters go on all weekend long do they?

I am with BMWR1100SS on this one, but from a different angle.....

Earlier posts suggest the trails bike riding has been going on for 45 years on this site. Have all (any) of the residents been in their properties for longer than 45 years? If not then why do they have the right to move in and then tell other people they have no right to participate in a hobby because it disturbes them??? Buy a property elswhere......

Because people have got away with being inconsiderate and others have put up with it for a period of time should they always be allowed to carry on being inconsiderate? No.

If I buy a house where the sellers have put up with neighbors noisy midnight parties every Friday night do you think they now have a right to be inconsiderate *rseholes and I should put up with it? No.

If we all followed your advice and bought a property elsewhere then those properties 'blighted' by things like noise nuisance would never sell and the owners would lose thousands, perhaps their livelihoods. Is that fair or reasonable? No.

As I said before there needs to be compromise. The bikers should pay to have noise screening put up or limit the days and times they can ride. The same goes for the shooters etc. etc.

It's not rocket science folks, I'm sure you can get it if you try, even Alan razz :p

Understand 100% jonno, but don't agree.

As I have said on here before check where your going to live, if there's noisy neighbours etc etc don't go there!

There's people who've bought houses near South Craven School in the past few years, then complain about the noisy kids! Doooohhhhhhhhh, do they not realise?

If Flappit is so bad why didn't they hear it when they bought their houses 1,500m (nearly a mile) away?

As I have also said before on here it's not acceptable for some people to act however they like regardless of how their actions affect others. We all have to live together in a way that's fair and reasonable. It's called living in society. If my actions spoiled your quiet enjoyment of your home every weekend and weeknight during the summer you'd soon complain.

Sometimes Alan I think you just disagree for the sake of it. We need a roll-eyes smiley so I can roll my eyes at you in threads like this.

for the benefit of of those who make assumptions about others.I had my first bike in 1965 and sold my last in 1995,I have lived in eight homes in Silsden, one of which was a farmhouse.Even though I am not a true silsdener I have done all the things required in the true Silsdener handbook and I even know Miss Clarke was never married, and who took the hands off the church clock.Just because I dont think people should have to put up with excessive noise dose not meen that I am against bikes or cow muck in the fields.

The area is so far from any homes that complaints about noise must be a red herring.

Seems it is not going to well for the Russian Army walking brigade as attempt to close roads in the Dales has been challenged successfully for four of them. Never noticed a problem myself though.

Note: The Russian army only taught the sergeants and above to read maps and use a compass, hence the rest of a squad had to stick with and lookafter the Sergeant or Officer. As most of the damage to paths is caused by walking hoards using only a few paths because either they can easily follow the churned up path, or the 'leader' with a map and compass.
