dear fellow cobbydalers, in case you have missed the local news in the last 12 hrs... there have been 12 cases of dogs poisoned in cross hills, during the last 7 days. they had been walked in station road and park road and round the back of the bp garage. all fellow dog walkers please be careful where you take your pets. might be an idea to take care round kildwick as well. keep your pet close and try to make sure they don't go out of sight and eating stuff. |

From Fresh Radio News Post mortems on dogs that died in Crosshills Latest News. 9:21am 27th May 2011. We’re waiting to hear the results of post mortems on a number of dogs that have died after being taken for walks in Crosshills Warning signs have gone up on a footpath behind the local BP garage after eight dogs died – all had been in stagnant water at the side of the path It’s suspected they may have been poisoned by blue-green algae in the water, meanwhile dog walkers are being urged to keep their pets of a lead |

This is really sad. A dear friend of ours lost her dog last saturday, Also 2 other ladies that we have met on Farnhill Moor have also lost their dogs. you don't know the problem until something like this happens. We know to keep our dogs out of standing water when the weather is hot because of blue algae, but you don't realise the same thing applies to footpaths. |

A further update -- IT IS NOT BLUE/GREEN ALGAE ! don't believe now that this is the problem - there has been an update and despite first reports that the problems have come from the water, it is now believed that this is DELIBERATE POISONING ! So warnings now for cross hills, farnhill and kildwick. AS ORIGINALLY POSTED KEEP YOUR DOGS ON A LEAD AND WATCH THEY DON'T EAT ANYTHING OUTSIDE ! |

Hi I'm sorry to hear of these poisonings. I once had a dog poisoned and it was sad for the dog which was young & healthy and heartbreaking for me. Is there any further information about what the poison is, how dogs are contracting it & symptoms to look out for? |

quotecould it be something the council has sprayed on foliage, some sort of weed killer? That's exactly what I was thinking, as they have been doing that recently… Although that spray is supposed to be fine (non toxic) to animals has the batch been tested to ensure it is what it says it is on the tin???? |

Thank you Peter, for the link. Sorry to hear it confirmed that they were poisoned. Whatever any one's personal views on dogs and pets, we should be sorry for their owners. Some may be old people and their pet was a companion and all were much loved. |
