IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Topic : Rocks & Ramps - Why Bother |
|
| tetleydrinker |
Whilst browsing Youtube I came across this disturbing footage: uk.youtube.com/watch?v=iYX_swp4Cec Surely if the council and the youth council have put so much effort into the facility in the park, it should be being used. But it would appear that SOME of the youths prefer to demonstrate their skills? in public places. Whilst I admit that the lad in the video can certainly ride a bike, who picks up the bill for the damage caused. p.s. I like the Idea of both the Panto and the Booze up |

No doubt some would be able to identify those involved, perhaps they may like to pass the info on to the police. If their parents got a not so friendly visit from the police, even for a warning, it MAY just help. We can live in hope |
|
| alan |
Interesting to follow the links to others 'tetleydrinker', especially this one - uk.youtube.com/user/simon999900 - as there's an excellent face still at the end. Looks to be taken in the park! |
|
| alan |
This one is even better - uk.youtube.com/watch?v=8FGMos-KRhY Wouldn't it be nice if our PCSO's watched these! |

They obviously learn from adults that anything provided for ones use is ignored. for example: people who park on the street instead of there drive people who park on road instead of paying for a car park people chuck litter on the ground instead of in the bin It is to easy to condemn. Of course, they might all be wimps and cannot use Rocks and Ramps because it is to difficult for them. |
|
| jonno |
Easy to condemn them, YES! I definately do. In the one where the lad jumps his bike up the big wall by the bus stop (out of the car park), and hangs on the triangular capping stone, what if that stone came loose and landed on him?! I suppose then his parents would want to sue the council. Or if it missed him and broke it would be me and you paying for it to be replaced. I don't think this kind of thing is a joke. Take as evidence the number of missing capping stones on the flowerbed by the car park and by the bus stop. |
|
| alan |
Wonder if our PCSO's have had a word in his ear yet? I drove through Silsden last night and easily spotted the same lad up to the same tricks. Surely they can't be that difficult to catch? |
|

quotetut tut tut Alan you should be walking ![]() |
|
| alan |
Can't walk to work |

| pumbajunior |

| alan |
Thankfully not |
|
| pumbajunior |
ahh so its only me that knows that pain |
|
| wahiba |
Sunday dinner time and the walls around the old police station were the chosen practise ground. For lady in 4X4 who gave them a second look, the fuel flap is loose. |
|
| andrew |
the PCSO's have had a word and the parents all know about the problem. letters to parents have been issued in regards to them footing the bill for repair. they are generally good kids but that does NOT excuse what they are doing. |
|

I think you'll find no damage done. The bikes are very lightweight and have rubber tyres. Neither will you find Trials Bicycle riders whinging about injuries. The skill is in doing the tricks slowly and "hanging on" to the bikes if you fall. Most "facilities" for bicycles are for BMX bikes and are not suitable for Bicycle Trials. Where I would encourage the lad to go up to the Moorside He probably found it shut due to the actions of Bradford Council and is unable to practice there. In his defence I'd also state that He seems to be there when nobody else is. Perhaps your "ire" should be directed at the set that seem to hang around during the day at weekends. When passing thru Silsden I find that there are large groups spilling on to the road at times. |

Telecat. If you care to go and look at the walls these bikers are using for their stunts you will see they are damaging them. If you are so sure they are not causing any damage then why don’t you invite them to do their riding on your walls then we will all be a lot happier. |
|
| pumbajunior |
Agreed most of the top stones are off or broken round that area they also use the edge of the flower beds they might have pneumatic tyres but theres still alot of weight landing on the stones |
|
| Telecat |
So the walls are damaged. Were they damaged before? Again Perhaps you should ask the council why the Biggest practice area in this part of the country was closed to both Motorcycles and Bicycles??? |
|
| alan |
So that's it 'telecat' it's all someones else's fault! Blame Bradford, blame society, blame the government, blame the smoking ban, owt will do! No they weren't damaged before, just look round at the state of copings on the walls of the flower beds and other walls in the town! |
|
| grandad |
Tele cat, when will you be throwing open your garden walls for the bikers to use and wreck? You failed to answer my previous question, |
|
| alan |
No 'grandad' the 4x4 through 'telecats' garden would be better. They're meant to go off road so it wouldn't do any damage would it? |
|
| coby1 |
yesterday i was going down silsden and two lads were jumpping on and off the wall by the bus stop on there bikes watched by a police van parked next to the wall. |
|
| grandad |
I didn’t know police vans had eyes! In fact I would be willing to bet they don’t, that being the case how could a van watch the bikers riding on the walls? |
|
| alan |
Unless it was the video van |

I have a Bicycle rider of my own in my own village who practices in my garden and a number of spots in the village. No complaints have been registered. He does not practice in Silsden. Again I look at your complaints and wonder why you are not asking your councillor why the Practice area was closed. Perhaps you are the Councillor who got himself on to the planning committee in order to close it. Perhaps the "dogging" doesn't bother him were as the bikes did. Odd priorities do you not think??? As for blaming the council. They have not replied as legally required to do within the set period and they are now being challenged via the Secretary of State as to why no reply has been received. Hence why not have a go at the council. Many of the people complaining are employers in Silsden and Bradford and they deserve an answer!! |
|

this post has been edited 1 time(s) 'telecat' if you used your commonsense you'd realise people were on your side BUT NOT when the bike riders do damage in the town centre. Perhaps you'd like to tell us which village you are from then we can send them round to damage your village because Bradford has done something WE don't like! Perhaps you should read the original title of this thread and realise just how Silsden Town Council has supported the youth! The message is, just because you have a beef with Bradford don't damage this town. Get real! |
|
| grandad |
Telecat, The rocks area in the park has been out of action due to a not inconsiderable amount of money being spent on it, the contractors have covered over the loose surface with cement, itself being given a coating of sand to make it look and grip better, Now the bikers can’t complain that they are getting punctures; due to being unable to remove the broken glass, so lets see them using the proper place they are supposed to be in, not the walls and flowerbeds in our lovely Town. All the excuses the bikers come up with are gust that Excuses! The bottom line is, they should not be riding on the walls. |

hi all, we are on be-half of the silsden bikers, first i have to state that Dougie Lampkin came from silsden, if your not aware who he is.. he is a multi-Winning World Trials Champion!! and us as bikers look up to him, and he is a big inspiration to all of us! So hopfully one day, we will be as big and sucsessful as he is!? We all think the 'Trials Area' is a good area to practice, But after a while, been in the same place all the time does get a little boring, so thats when we go round the streets. Its not exactly like were all doing drugs on the street corner or summert, were all well behaved lads with good intentions in life. Soo thats our thoughts towards your comments... Mr.X |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) reading this makes me angry... Because I used to ride trials last year...yes around silsden... The trials park is fairly good but we always got told to go there even when it was dark but besides that, one of the first posts talks about skills and has a ? next to it!! The person who wrote this obviously doesn't have any idea how difficult it is and to be able to do it to a high standard is amazing! We got alot of positive attention from people watching us that had never seen it before, the facilities need to be improved if the trialing on the streets is a "major problem." Plus we used to ride up at Addingham Moorside until that was closed down for some very strange reason! We could always give up our hobbies and start drinkin every weekend and doing drugs all the time?? Would that suit you all better?? society is never happy with anything that teenagers do!! seems like you're all out to get us! CJ... |

Well put i cant agree with you more i would gladly pay a couple of quid extra on my rates to repair the so called damage to the walls than pay to repair the upturned plant pots and bedding plants strewn across the memorial gardens on a sunday morn after the other section of youths finish off their sat night out ,Years ago we used to have the Lampkins and all their friends ride motor bikes up the beck from the jumping jack to the post office and all the people of Silsden used to watch in ammazement so come on get off the young talented kids back and leave them alone |
|
| Mr.X |
quoteI cant thank you enough for saying that, it does seem like everyone is out to get at us for what ever we do? Personally i dont see anything wrong with what were doing? We have a hobby and it keeps us out of trouble..(unless 'PCSO' Plodd comes and thinks he is the boss) Soo just leave us be... |

If most of the people reading and subscribing to this forum were true cobbydalers they would know how proud we are of our past and present champions , as mentioned before ,the Lampkins ,the Wainmans , the Greenways ,Paul Newby ,Des Fretwell, all true Silsdeners so these young lads who are supposely breaking up our town may one day become champions and bring more credit to Silsden ,if this does happen i hope you knockers are the first to say I TRIED TO STOP ALL THIS BUT THEY WERNT REALLY DOING ANY THING WRONG |
|
| offcumden |
this post has been edited 2 time(s) quoteWell I wouldn't! If these people damage anything they should go out of their way to repair the damage, and then possibly people wouldn't be so annoyed. It's called "behaving responsibly". If they left things as they found them (or better) and didn't cause problems for anyone else then I'd think they would find people supporting them more. |
|
| alan |
Correct 'offcumden'. I look forward to seeing their working party putting it right at THEIR expense! |
