This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

I had telephone calls from somebody saying he was ringing from Talktalk. He said that faults had been reported on the line and that there might be problems with my computer. He wanted me to sign in to my pc and start pressing keys etc. I told him I was suspicious and he rang off.
I reported it to Talktalk.
They advised me this was a scam and was quite widespread and other companies were also impersonated - Microsoft for example. the aim of the scam was to put malware on the pc or to block it and charge money - whatever.
I had two calls like this so it must be ongoing.

Have not had this one yet.

If you are PC savvy and want some fun you can usually waste their time. Most of the key strokes, at least to start with, are normal Microsoft programmes commands. It is only when they want you to go on line that you have to be careful.

I happened to have a small PC with Linux on and when they rang followed the first lot of instructions on my PC but went on line with the Linux machine. Interestingly the site they send you to had an address in Bangalore so I started asking about the weather and cricket.

Only indulge in this childish way of getting your own back if you are PC savvy. Otherwise ring off or just waste their time and money without touching your PC.
