Me to Council..... I was wondering why there was gritting taking place in Silsden at 1 pm on New Years day. The day did not seem to have any weather conditions that warranted such an unusual occurrence. Can you please advise me as to why this use of resources was used on this occasion especially as the probability is that the employee driving the vehicle would have possibly been on call out and on enhanced pay as it was a public holiday.

Reply.....On new years day there was a covering of snow in some areas of Bradford. The forcast was for more snow so the gritters were out as a precautionary measure. We have to try and keep the main routes as free from snow and ice as possible in case of emergencies.

Mmmmmmmm whatever!!!

The cause for posting the topic was that the conditions did not appear to warrant the use of a gritter. Alan, regarding the ambulance, I think I understand the point you’re making, however the roads were clear. Had the roads been influenced by the weather then, yes I would expect the gritters to be out and about and no I would not be saying the same, neither would I enjoy an anvil being dropped on my head…sorry just stating the obviouswink ;)wink ;)wink ;)wink ;)
