I attended the STC meeting on Thursday, item 6 on the agenda was UU Gesture of Goodwill Offer which turned out to be the grand sum of £500. This, it was pointed out by a councilor was about 7p for each inhabitant of Silsden.

We all laughed. laugh :Dlaugh :Dangrylaugh :Dlaugh :D

Suggestions below about what you think about this "generous" offer and perhaps how you would like to spend your 7p or collectively £500........

More seriously where exactly will the £500 be going?

A new automated sign at the entrance of silsden to inform commuters of traffic disruptions maybe?

i may have misunderstood, but i thought in order to receive the £500.00 you had to buy something in silsden in order to get a raffle ticket, and the winning ticket would get £500.00 worth of vouchers to spend in silsden.
hardly the same when they put it like that is it ?

That was the UU idea allie, but the money was for Silsden to decide what to do with it.

We could use the money to hire a digger and dig up the road outside a senior uu employees house and see how they feel if we offer them 7p in compensation?

I would use my 7p to support the people doing that play for Silsden.

Called in at the coffee morning at St. James's on Saturday in support of the community theatre.

Met the author Cathy and bought a book and two buns.

Sounds like a good play about the history of Silsden.

I think it should be given to the youth council, for them to put towards the new play equipment in the park.
It might pay for a couple of square foot of soft play surface.
If U.U. had properly recompenced the people of Silsden the cheque would have had a least one more nought on the end of the figure.

Why do UU not pay for a full page feature in the Keighley News and Craven Herald, they could publicly apologise for their ineptness and give advertising space to all local businesses affected.

That is actually a really good idea Tetley! Perhaps they could also mention, it is all back to normal in Silsden as well (or at least will be when the roadworks go from Howden road)

PRESS RELEASE FROM UU - they do read the forum shocked 8O

Northern Gas Networks’ Gwen Evans said:

“The work United Utilities is carrying out on our behalf in Silsden is vital to ensure the on-going safety and reliability of the gas supply in the town. We invest £82 million every year to replace ageing metallic pipes with plastic ones that are safer and more reliable. This project is due to complete in around four weeks time. We regret the inconvenience the work may be causing and in recognition, Enterprise and Northern Gas Networks have offered to donate £500 as a goodwill gesture.

As the Keighley News were at the town council meeting where this was discussed we should have an interesting report on the 'overwhelming response' wink ;)
