IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. GAMEKEEPER |
Acute Oak Death - Phytophthora ramorum, has hit the St Ives Estate. Phytophthora also affects a variety of other tree species and was recently damaging crops of Sitka spruce *Picea sitchensis) Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) amongst other commercial crops. While there are only a very small number of plantation woodlands in our immediate area, I urge everyone who uses woodland sites of ANY type, to take great care and attention to cleaning boots, clothing, pets and equipment off when returning home. These diseases spread very easily and very quickly. Ash Dieback has recently been reported in the area (Craven Herald, 2nd October). Please remember that these diseases don't just affect the odd tree, but whole woodland sites!! www.keighleynews.co.uk/news/11551587.Deadly_tree_disease_hits_popular_beauty_spot_at_Harden__near_Keighley/ www.forestry.gov.uk/pramorum www.cravenherald.co.uk/news/11508969.Disappointment_as_ash_dieback_arrives_in_Craven/ |
