This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Where in Steeton? They usually build next door to Aldi to pinch their business!

Well if it is true and they have the mini bakery selling fresh Croissant for 28p as opposed to 58p at the Co-Operative AND Tesco then that is fine by me.

Believe it when I see it though.

There is no mention of Lidl (no name given, just 'convenience store'). The proximity of the hospital though is a good indicator of why that spot was chosen.

Hope it is a Lidl, much more interesting than the other 'covenience' stores.

This doesn't sound like a Lidi to me:

From The Craven and Herald

Convenience store plans get go-ahead
8:10am Friday 30th March 2012

Developers have been given the green light to build a convenience store in Steeton.

Bradford Council’s Keighley Area Planning Panel has approved plans put forward by Croft Building Ltd to build the shop on land near Longlands, in Skipton Road, despite objections from Steeton and Eastburn Parish Council, which described the site as “unsuitable”.

Planning officers had said the application would address a lack of shops in the Steeton and Eastburn area and should be approved.

Steeton Councillor Roger Lambert said: “We’re concerned the building proposed is too big for this site.

“The servicing will need to happen outside opening times, so neighbours will have noise at all sorts of hours.”

Clive Brook, for the applicant, told the meeting on Thursday: “This will be a small but modern store.”

How about The derelict co-op building? Not particularly good for parking, but a good focal outlet, tasteful use for a current building.

There are two sites in the centre of Silsden that could be developed for convenience stores. Both have reasonable parking. Both also have a pub on them, but this has not stopped developers elsewhere. Quite a number of pubs have been converted to convenience stores elsewhere in the country.

agreed old miner
but if your refering to one as the bridge your wrong on parking
you cant park at the bridge as its on a blind brow and people have received fines and penalty points for doing so

if your refering to parking behind i believe the beer garden belongs to british waterways and no cars should really be going down there as the sewer is too close to the surface and its supposed to be access only not parking
