IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Try the Bradford sites, start here and follow the links - www.bradford.gov.uk/environment/land_and_premises/asset_management/allotments/sites_with_waiting_lists/ |

There are some at the top of Elliot Street. Don't know much about them, but there is a post about them. Go on 'Forum Index', then 'I'm Looking For...', then the second page. The post is third from the top, the last post is dated: 31/12/2006 : 20:46:32. Hope this helps. |

Silsden lost 2 big allotment sites one on the tip and one on howden road to houses. Can any one tell if the next place to build in silsden is of dradi as all the garages have been knocked down |
|
| tetleydrinker |
Coby1, When you say the tip do you mean the Green up Bradley Road ?, I have been in Silsden for 40 years so far (since i was born) and cannot recall any allotments up there, although I only live down the road from it. The only allotments I know of are are on the Elliot St side of the canal, Top of Bolton Road, and the 'pens' by the canal |

I got a phone call from bradford council yesterday the site off elliot street has 59 people waiting and it will be 2-3 years before i get a plot |
|
| coby1 |
allotments and henpens on the tip were next to atkinsons yard going up to skipton road where the new house are now |
|
| Alan Grop |
Yes they use to be Hen pens leading down to the tip (green) did mr Atkinson get a lot of money for selling the land ? |
|
| tetleydrinker |
I stand corrected whilst sitting here typing this (which is a very uncomfortable position) My memories not what is was, in fact I can'remember when it was! |
|
| hat |
& the ones on howden road were lost to 'lego land' there is still a plot on bolton road but its a pretty small one |
|
| pumbajunior |
does anyone know who runs the bolton road allotments? |
|
| alan |
Think they're the private ones, try the Deputy Mayor - Cllr Savage - think he has some contacts. His details are on the town council link. You will ned to telephone him, he doesn't use computers |

Thanks alan |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) posted on meaningless consultation on dradishaw road thread by Bob T Just to put you in the picture pumbajunior re the allotments at the bottom of dradishaw road /elliot st .The first ones behind the old folks home are owned and run by Silsden allotment association the second ones behind Cobbydale court are privately owned by the Chadwick family and the third ones ,halfway up Woodside Rd on the left are the Bradford Met owned ones ,Hpoe this helps you in your quest for an allotment does anoyone have any details of were to contact for the other 2 allotment associations? |
|

The waiting list for allotments in Silsden is huge! We should be pushing for the green land at Dradishaw Road to be used for this purpose - never mind the 'consultation people' saying no (without explanation). And take a look at this week's Craven Herald (page six) which says the Big Lottery Fund has just announced £50 million worth of grants to create new allotment! |
|
| coby1 |
the land off dradishaw road will be no good for allotments as the old silsden council had the land filled with quary bottoms to form a wagon park and it was well compacted down |
|
| Bob T |
If you have a walk down to the first two allotmens tomorrow and talk to the allotment holders they will tell you who to contact re info on their patches |

Allotments suddenly seem to be popular. Something to do with rising food prices? Maybe we should all start looking at what we can do. My t'other half bought a book on growing food in pots on our patio style garden. 'times they are a changing' |
|
| Bob T |
Hi did you walk down the two allotment areas last sunday as i suggested and talk to the holders .I was down at mine all day and no strangers came down to inquire about tenancy ,i am in the first area behind the old folks centre down past the green iron fencing hope to talk to you sometime re being an allotment holder regards Bob |

Re Alan Grops reply on 6/10/07 about Mr Atkinson selling the land .I think he is totally out of order asking how much mr Atkinson got for the land as it has nothing to do with him or this website |
|
| Bob T |
Hi pumbajunior i think you met one of the allotment holders (the chairman) and i think he has put you on the list as your name came up at our last comm meeting |
|
| pumbajunior |
ok thanks bob |
|
| pumbajunior |
i might be being a bit thick here but how do you know its my name bob as far as i know only skippy n beachy know my real name on here? |
|
| Bob T |
Hi Pumbajunior if that wasnt you ,then you had better shoot up to the allotments and get you name down but there again if it was you then your secret is safe with me regards Bob |
|
| pumbajunior |
my initials are JJ |
|
| Bob T |
Thats that sorted then the last name on the list has initials S.M so you are not on the list if you still want to be considered then do as i said and visit the site and find out who is who and make yourself known |

are there any garden centers or seed merchents round here nearest ones i can think of are harden wilsden or pool near otley were do the people with allotments get there seeds from? |
|
| claymoreking |
Think there might be a bloke with an allotment on Woodside Road that sells them , I know he sells potted plants and trays, that kind of thing. Nearest garden centre is probably Gargrave. |
|
| firtoffee |
Hi plumbajunior I have an allotment woodside rd BradMet owned. I am finding it too big so may possibly sub let half of the plot, not too sure if I should do this though, may need to get permission from council. I do know that quite a few of them are sublet, can any of the local councillors enlighten me please. |
