This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

From what I could see from home, it is completely closed between Steeton and Keighley, and traffic is backing up from Kildwick to Steeton. sad :(

according to the BBC travel site & the T&A website the trunk road is shut from the silsden roundabout to Keighley due to ice, & the Bingley bypass is also shut from Keighley to the Ferncliffe Road junction, again due to ice

maybe the should be out gritting as all roads around silsden and area are already icy the lazy b*****ds.. they will only be out gritting when its too late and there on double time or sommat .. can you imagine the hassle it would cause if none of silsden paid there council tax this month due to no roads been gritted and wheelie bins not been emptied they would soon do sommat then probaly jail but something would be done......sad :(

Hmmm, bypass seemed perfectly OK to me at 5:30pm. People (idiots) even going down outside lane OK.

This will cause chaos in the morning if it's still closed.

It is amusing reading comments on all sorts of sites about unprepared councils, not gritting etc etc. How many of the complainants were prepared themselves? I fitted my winter tyres to my car in late november - so I've had no hassle at all. Gives me the nice safe option of coming over the tops, missing all the 15mph convoys on the main roads.

Tuesday morning - 5.30am - no snow, bit of frost - and a gritter came past on the bus route. 6.15am, snowing hard, 2" settled and covering the grit. (but due to my winter tyres, my journey into work was fine - my VIP lane, the unused outer lane on the bypasses all the way to Saltaire was mine alone wink :) )

So when all the lazy ones got up at 8am . . there looked to have been no gritters . . . except there had . . .

Not so amusing - pillocks parking cars in silly places when a little thought would indicate a few feet away would make it so much easier to get past, or even for a gritter to actually get through. Watching the road today - people fighting their way up on one line - creating a clear track as the snow was moved and the grit mixed in to do it's job. And what does someone do . . . park on it! Forcing everyone else to attempt a new line . .. and come to a stop. If the parker had simply moved off line and come to a stop out of the way, everyone else could still get by, and the parker could have simply rolled back onto the grip when they wanted to go. But then, common sense seems to have been banned these days.

"WEST YORKSHIRE ARE A WASTE OF TIME " because of course, things were only going wrong this side of Keighley and no-where else in West Yorks and they have unlimited numbers of vehicles and officers . . .

Winter tyres - Kingpin Alpin remoulds - 40 quid each in 195/55/15 a year ago - Hall Street Garage in Crosshills. Makes a snowy road feel like a wet road with normal tyres. Doesn't 'alf seem to upset "proper" 4WDs as you blow by them from the headlamp flashing and horn tooting happy :)

There were a least 4 members of your local Neighbourhood Police team working around the accident site trying to keep everybody moving as best the could.
don't know of any N/Yorks bobbies being there, but if they were then thanks for the help, at least their pay wasn't coming out of our council tax!
