This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

As you all know its coming towards that time of year again...(obviously christmas)...and on the 21/22 of november silsden christmas lights will be being put up around the town...unfortunatly once again not all the lights will be able to be put up..due to bradford council again....but we can make the most of a bad situation....so we are asking for all the help we can get..generaly to help carry boxes, bulbs, wires, and hold ladders or go up ladders...please help us make silsden look the best we can....

Hi can you tell me why we can't have all of the lights up this Christmas and why Bradford Council are to blame. It was such a shame not to see them last year.

in regards not being able to put all the lights up...as far a i know..that when bradford council have to replace any of the lamp posts in silsden(and there has been quite a few) then when the put the new post in they dont replace the power plug at the top of the post for us to plug the feature in..we have asked bradford to replace the plugs on to the new posts but we are told due to new regulations blah blah blah...they cant or wont...and yet they wont tell us what the new regs are....we have asked for the man concerned to attend any council meeting to discuss but we never seem to get a response or attendance to any meetings...nice for you to ask tiger..will you be coming down to help when we put them up...

Thanks for the information, the lack of lights makes sense now. Sorry I can't help to put the lights up as I have caring responsobilities at the weekend. Anyway being a female I'd bound to come out with a "How many men does it take to change a lightbulb" comment.

if various attempts have been made to contact the person in charge at bradford, why dont we name and shame him in the kly news,we all know that nothing ever gets done unless we force them.....
its the people of silsden that are suffering, come on silsden lets pull our finger out and get something done.....

PS.. the town council should pay and name and shame ....

Peter I don't think they got the joke?
Yes Alan and Skippy it was very good of all the new helpers to come along to give us a hand!
To all of you I hope you found it an enjoyable experience, I know that the first time doing this can be a bit off putting, you are not sure what to do and it may look as if we don't really apreciate you, but believe me when I say YES we do.
some of the lights have already come on tonight, their timers must have been set by the lads from Bradford, unfortunatley it looks as if we have a problem with the power to the string of lights above Sams

I continue, Mike and I will be going round all of the timers in the morning (10AM) to check/set them, if the one above Sam's cafe is not working I will need to drag the cherry picker out then go up to try and fix them, I think I know what the problem might be, I already have one volunteer but could do with one or two more to watch the traffic.
