This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

BMDC keep banging on that they are going to have a £150 million budget cut this next year, services will be cut left, right and centre. Then I saw this, this morning -

www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/10666357.__17m_plan_for_four_new_swimming_pools_in_city/

It is notable that the pools to be shut are all outside of Bradford city centre and have all a "backlog of maintenance bills". The new sites are all, allegedly, to be built within Bradford City Centre!

I am getting old. Smimming pools used to last 100 years and more. Now they are closing some I remember them opening. Maintainance backlog or shoddy building in the first palce. I see Keighley Leisure Centre has scaffolding up again.

Meanwhile, whilst browsing the job vacancies posted on the BMDC website, I found it interesting that most of the jobs posted are at management level or higher including this posting paying £60,000 +

Considering the amount of revenue B/Met will recieve from the Bingley area it is pretty disgusting to deprive them of yet another facility. I realise Bingley Baths are well past their sell by, but it is such a shame that no provision is made to replace them.
Yet another example of BMDC of trying to breathe life into their dead city.

It is unofficial BMDC policy to move services into the centre of Bradford - now does it all make sense?

The general consensus of opinion is that there is no money in the council coffers!

If that is the case, then why are they recruiting for positions such as this - E8514RR Employer Responsive Coordinator?

It is posted as a starter salary of '£27,000. It's certainly not a ground level, service position.

PH510R Health Protection Immunisation and Screening Senior Manager. This one starts at £45,000.

At least it isn't just Silsden that is blatantly being shafted!

This report on living standards just about says it all.

I don't quite grasp the point of this. I know £14,000 is not a vast sum of money in the grand scheme of things. Ilkley is and always has been, a very affluent area. What are the are the chances of Silsden gaining a £7,000 grant?
www.ilkleygazette.co.uk/news/news_local/10748889.Ilkley_councillors_to_bid_for_development_plan_funding/

£7,000, akin with the £25,000 police fund, would certainly help with the Wesley Place buildings.

They are looking at building a water turbine at Saltaire. It's projected to cost £1.2 million. Can't have sold much in either Saltaire or Shipley to cover that!

It will power all of 150 houses at best!
