Email received from David Trish
Best thing for Silsden for years.. The double yellow lines outside the post office.. Please leave them there. It ensures free flowing traffic and stops the jams with buses and HGV's coming through town. |

Depends really! Do you want shops znd services in silsden? I Would close as soon as I discovered the parking was removed and I am sure many of my fellow traders would follow! Perhaps a better suggestion would be to ban hgv traffic! |

But Peter, don't you think that drivers will speed through the centre of the village if there are no vehicles parked at the side of the road to slow them down?

theres a car park 20yds away from start of yellow lines surely people could use those things called legs, it cant be more than 50yds to where they end at the chippie even gg could get that far. As for traffic going through faster if nothing was parked there, they could put a bit of an island either side of zebra crossing to thin the road a bit but not as much as parked cars, and do the same with the crossings outside the bookies and papershop further down town. |

dogcatcher....I'm with you on this one. The result would be safer, and to really tighten it up without affecting traffic flow, a 20mph limit in Kirkgate would be fine. However, it is unlikely to happen because people in power equate blocked roads with safety, and slowing down traffic in town centres. As you say there are 3 crossings to protect people, if they use them! What happens is that people wait for a large lorry or bus to block things up, and then dodge across about 20 yards from a crossing. It's a fatality waiting to happen one of these days. |

Dogcatcher - walking from the car park is not the answer.
What about people who are disabled or infirm?
There are people who find it very difficult to walk a few meters. |

If David Trish don't like it he should go to another town! Wonder if he was the same character from Crosshills who sometime ago was trying to get Bradford to put down yellow lines? If so this is one battle he ain't gonna win |

Just to clarify, the town council has always and will continue to agree with the parking outside the post office, and WILL NOT accept yellow lines there permanently.
The main reasons for this is to slow down traffic and to allow people to park to support our local businesses. |

i can't believe people actually want to do away with the parking permenantly - all for the sake of moving through the town a little bit quicker. As for asking people to park in the car parks and then walk - all well and good but people don't - the last 10 weeks have shown us all that and as mentioned, what about the disabled? |

and by the way - the roadworks are now due to finish (on Kirkgate) on Wednesday and Bradford council have promised to return the parking with a day or two - so hooray! and thanks to Silsden council for their support in this matter |

There are people who find it very difficult to walk a few meters. well a possible solution for our disabled persons would either have a carefully located disabled bay or maybe a small stretch with a single yellow line that would allow them say 15 mins there or so. But to the disabled bay ive never seen a car with a sticker parked on the one outside the con club at the top of town yet in 3 years,im sure there will of been one or two but the small ammount that do use it does it warrant it. and come on most disabled with a car do have wheel chairs we are only talking 20 to 30 yrds.and id like to see someone in a wheel chair get into the p/o or most of the shops and banks for anything so where are they going to go to,the p/o steps are a struggle for some people that can walk!!!! |

I agree, lets keep the yellow lines. The town council say they will fight any parking restrictions as people don't want them, how do they know what people want, have they actually carried out a survey? as a compromise I would like to see a ban on hgv's obviously legitimate deliveries excepted |

and while we are on the subject of surveys - could someone tell me how much quicker it would be to drive through Silsden without the parking? bet it would be in the area of a minute on average - far less time than it takes for people to walk from the car parks to say the travel agent or Barclays! Also - where is the evidence that it would be safer without parking as seem to be suggested? Maybe by killing off trade in Silsden, there will be less people walking around for speeding motorists to hit! I suspect the Councils' view (both Bradford and Silsden) is that the parking is good for trade - the traffic calming is a good side effect of it |

Yep, cheap traffic calming is an effect of the parking
There was someone from Crosshills a while ago, who drove through the town regularly, that tried to get Bradford to impose parking restrictions. I am still curious to know if this is the same fella.
I think the message has to be to those who merely drive through the town and don't like the parking to find another route. Our local businesses are far more important that through traffic suffering an odd few minutes delays! |

I was beginning to think the same thing Alan, maybe we should suggest a shicane thingy on kirkgate with parking behind it and a ban on hgv traffic! Would sort all our probs and probably force through traffic onto a better route! |

Think your info is incorrect doggie.......
It was the district councillor Eileen McNally that championed the crossing there as I remember. |

Whilst I agree with reducing the "through" traffic, particularly the HGV's. I dont see how it can be effectively controlled or policed, if some HGV's are coming through to make deliveries in Silsden, how can anyone tell these from the HGV's who are just taking a shortcut. I dont think just putting a sign up will stop them for long. Am I missing something ?? |

let's face it. until we have a by-pass (i won't hold my breath) we can never be like addingham or bingley. we have to get rid of the 'through' traffic and there is only one way. |
