I agree with lord stephens, it is time that anyone who murders a member of the police force whilst on duty should be hanged.
I dont want to see our bobby's being given any more guns than they have now, but there has to be an effective deterent against these murderes.
putting then into a prison where they are better looked after than most pensioners, then letting them out in twelve years to return to their crimminal ways is not enough.

whats the difference between a policeman and any other citizen, why should they have different rights when, at the end of the day, we are all humans? the death penalty could act as a deterrent but there is always a small percentage when someone innocent could pay the price through a miscarriage of justice, its alright supporting the death penalty, but can you imagine if you were that innocent person that was sentenced to it....its not worth it mate

jimbo, your input is all negative, what is your solution to the problem of criminals with guns?

solution? do you seriously think that you can stop people using guns? never in this world can that happen, its just not feasible, all you can do is make it very hard for these criminals to commit a crime and second of all, make it hard for them to get away with it, arming police wont work as it will encourage criminals to 'go one better' and use somthing where they have the upper hand, greater security and zero tolerance is required. look at how quickly they arrested someone after the shooting, that will surely have sent a stern message out

Jimbo, you talk a lot but say nothing. What do you mean by greater security and zero tolerance? Yes they arrested someone after the shooting but they have now let them all go again, fair enough some are out on bail most are not, now they have caught another one, lets see how long they hold onto him.
If he is convicted he will probably only get a few years in the holiday camp called Armley them be let out to do it again.

Jimbo Grandad, Zero tolerance can work if done effectively. It was in New York, and they cut the serious crime by over 50%. The Chief tried it in Middlesboro and failed because he was ridiculed by the press and not supported by the public, or at least the vocal public. (You know Jimbo, the ones that do all the talking and none of the work).
To be effective, zero has to be zero, in New York anything against the law if caught was prosecuted, even little things like spitting in the street or swearing. In the end everyone realised that such behaviour was not acceptable and has everyone began to look at what they were doing, there was more respect for everyone, and everyone behaved better. Therefore less crime better society. If this is what you want then don’t complain about the speed camera’s, the parking tickets or anything else that’s against the law. The bottom line is: the law’s the law, and if you chose to break it expect retribution.
Now what that retribution is depends on how much society is willing to go along with the theory, should an eye for an eye be the norm, or should we start making compromises? “Well he did not mean it, he was drunk” If someone chooses to get drunk, they also chose to take the risk and consequences. Therefore no excuses, the full weight of the law at all times.
While we are considering this, why not bring back the birch and cat. No holiday camps, less cost. A good example to others. What about holding the punishment at half time in the football, on the telly. That would improve the ratings, and sow everyone that they are not as hard as they would have us believe. They could even have the victims to rub the salt in afterwards to prevent infection, would not what the little dears getting ill would we?
There, that’s the solution to every problem, no more vandals, just well mannered respect for everyone and everything.
