Posted on behalf of a resident:

Watching the disabled minibus trying to enter Craven Ave, drawing attention once again to the sheer lack of consideration of some drivers.

Seeing incidents like tis always makes me wonder...what the heck would happen if it was an emergency, ie. ambulance or fire.
All too unfortunately, it is an ongoing situation these days.
You see things that make you think...did I read a different version of the highway code.!!!!

two wheels on the pavement I think it is now a £70 fine if two wheels are on the pavement so come mr plod you can clearly see his number plate details www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3423313/Drivers-to-be-hit-with-70-fines-if-they-park-with-two-wheels-on-pavement.html

I get annoyed by inconsiderate drivers to but in some cases parking 2 wheels on the pavement is the only way to avoid blocking roads/streets. I'm on Cornwall Avenue and some of the houses have no drives to get their cars off the road and if they didn't park with wheels on the pavement, they would block the road. As long as there's room for buggies/wheelchairs etc to get past, I don't see a problem. What else do you suggest they do?

One solution would be to prohibit parking on all roads unless there is a defined parking zone. Roads, believe it or not, are actually for travelling on, not parking on!

For all those people who have houses with no off road parking - well it's a tough old world.

I'm gonna make an assumption that the car on the right, looking at the picture, parked there second, otherwise why would they park with two wheels on the curb?

If so, then why not just park somewhere that's not opposite the other parked car? That way you don't reduce the width of the road to a level where larger vehicles and emergency vehicles would struggle to get past. I certainly doubt if you'd get a bin wagon thru that gap for instance.

It's just people not thinking. I don't think it's deliberate, I do think it's inconsiderate in the sense that no thought whatsoever has gone into their choice of where to park, never mind considering whether they may inconvenience anyone.

But why do they make the pavements so wide in the first place? Perhaps I'm missing something obvious. Surely pavements only need to be wide enough for wheelchairs and buggies. So if the pavements were made narrower the problem would be eased.

But I always park there! It's right outside my house! It's the other car that shouldn't be there.

People who ride bikes on pavements (Usually adults!) are dangerous too.If i am worried about a stretch of road I get off and push my bike on the road not mounting the pavement.

Most of the older house's on Cornwall Avenue don't have drives. Originally there was a grass verge lining the street. The option once most house's had cars, was to replace the grass with parking spaces. However the council took the cheaper option of just infilling the grass area and allowing cars to park with 2 wheels on the infill. It doesnt matter though because the path is so wide.

It is not an offence to park a car on the footpath, as long as it doesn’t cause an obstruction, i.e. you can still get past it with a wheelchair or buggy!

Parking on the pavement may not be illegal AT THE MOMENT unless you are causing an obstruction (and that is subjective).

However, there is a government directive which puts the subject of parking on the pavement in the hands of the local authority, and in these cash strapped times they might see it as a way of making money.

Pavements are for people not cars.

With regard to Peter's comment and strapped cashed authorites and country. A real purge should be enforced (to make the Pips sqeak) for pavement parkers, litterers. dog droppings, using mobile phones when in charge of a car, and speeding. If the authoritoes really got organise we could reduce the National somewhat.

The astra is perfectly fine to be there. Its not likes theres double yellow.
Why didnt the blue van just go up and access the road at the other end. Surely it would of been easier!

"silsden lad" thats a typical response from this selfish society.People need to think before they act, the silver car could have a parked a little higher up so that it was not opposite the other car thus making the gap narrow, and the person with the blue car should have put it on their drive.

That would mean someone would have to walk a few yards extra.
